Arc Raiders devs have “100% discussed” transforming Speranza into a walkable hub like Destiny 2 or Monster Hunter, lead says it’ll happen “at the right moment”: “There’s definitely a good appetite on the team”

So, in Arc Raiders, there’s this main base called Speranza – it’s where you go to chill and gear up between missions. Honestly, it looks like a really cool place to just wander around and explore. The developers, Embark Studios, actually want to make it feel like a real, walkable neighborhood eventually, but right now they’re focused on getting the core gameplay solid first.

Virgil Watkins, design director for Arc Raiders, explained to PCGamesN that the player experience was one of the very first things the team discussed when starting work on the game’s interface. He said they quickly realized the biggest limitations would be time and the overall scope of the project.

While a detailed, explorable hub area like those in games such as Destiny 2 or Monster Hunter would be nice, it’s not essential to enjoying Arc Raiders. Ensuring the game is stable and works well has always been the main focus. With so many players checking out Arc Raiders since its launch just three months ago, the development team is busy with many different tasks, and building out a place like Speranza isn’t one of them right now.

Things might change in the future, though it’s hard to say when. As the developers at Embark continue to improve the game and make sure everything runs smoothly, they can start working on this more quickly. And if you prefer using menus, you won’t be forced to change your playstyle.

Watkins enjoys the idea of a central, walkable area, but wants to keep the convenience of quickly accessing everything you need. She explains that currently, getting things done feels like running back and forth between different locations – Celeste, her room, Shani’s – and forgetting items. She also believes this current system takes away from the overall immersive experience.

The team is open to revisiting the idea, but it’s a matter of finding the right time. According to Watkins, they’ve discussed it and will continue to do so, and there’s strong interest within the team. They’re waiting for the opportune moment to move forward.
