2026’s The Mandalorian Movie: New Photo May Spoil 1 Big ‘Clone Wars’ Cameo

Recent promotional images for a new LEGO Star Wars set may have revealed the return of a beloved character from the Star Wars universe, and specifically hinted at a comeback for a character originally featured in The Clone Wars within The Mandalorian & Grogu film. Set to release in theaters on May 22, 2026, The Mandalorian & Grogu is the first Star Wars movie since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. The success of this film is crucial, as it could lead to a potential movie trilogy following the adventures of Mando and Grogu.

As a huge Star Wars and LEGO fan, I’m so excited to hear that 2026 will bring a ton of new sets! I’m especially looking forward to one in particular that’s coming out later in the year – it’s going to feature Cobb Vanth, played by Timothy Olyphant, and Cad Bane, voiced by Corey Burton. It’s going to be awesome!

Okay, let’s talk about the “Cobb Vanth’s Speeder” set. Basically, you get minifigs of Vanth and Bane having a shootout, with Vanth riding his speeder. Now, on the surface, it doesn’t seem that exciting, especially if you’ve already seen their gunfight play out on The Book of Boba Fett. It feels a little redundant, honestly, to revisit that exact scene in LEGO form.

Some fans have noticed that the artwork on the LEGO set’s box is a LEGO-style recreation of promotional images for The Mandalorian & Grogu. This has led many to speculate that Cobb Vanth and Cad Bane might reappear in the show.

The banner features Din Djarin carrying Grogu, facing forward. It’s very similar to a poster recently released in Portugal for The Mandalorian & Grogu, showing the characters in the same pose.

People might think the special banner will be on all LEGO Star Wars sets coming out in 2026, especially since The Mandalorian & Grogu is scheduled for release that year, and assume it doesn’t matter if it’s on sets featuring Vanth and Bane. However, LEGO has already shown off other 2026 sets with different banners, making that idea unlikely.

Other LEGO sets, such as the BB-8 one, simply have black banners with the Star Wars logo. This has led some fans to believe LEGO may have accidentally revealed the return of Cad Bane, a major character from The Clone Wars.

Let’s look at the battle shown in the LEGO set and how closely it resembles Bane’s fight with Vanth in The Book of Boba Fett. In the Disney+ series, the fight was a traditional Western-style gun duel, with both characters drawing their weapons after a tense standoff. Bane shot Vanth, leaving him seriously wounded, and Vanth hasn’t been seen in Star Wars since.

The LEGO set depicts Bane on top of a building, rather than standing in the street as he was in the show. Vanth is shown sitting in his speeder, which was actually absent during their gunfight in The Book of Boba Fett.

There’s strong evidence suggesting this LEGO set depicts a scene from the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu series.

It’s also likely LEGO is using this banner for all sets related to the ‘MandoVerse,’ or at least for projects featuring Din Djarin and Grogu, such as The Book of Boba Fett.

Will Cad Bane and Cobb Vanth Be in The Mandalorian & Grogu?

Cad Bane is a fan-favorite from The Clone Wars, and Cobb Vanth gained a lot of popularity through The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Because of this, many fans would be thrilled to see either character appear in the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu.

The finale of The Book of Boba Fett seemed to show Boba Fett successfully killing Cad Bane, mirroring a planned outcome from season seven of The Clone Wars. However, a faint beeping sound coming from Bane’s armor led many fans to believe he might still be alive.

Both Cobb Vanth and Cad Bane haven’t been seen in Star Wars for a while, but because they’ve both interacted with Din Djarin and Grogu in the Star Wars universe connected by The Mandalorian, a return for either character is definitely possible.

The new movie appears to focus solely on these two characters, so we probably won’t see many returning faces. With Zeb from Star Wars Rebels already playing a significant part, adding too many other characters could make the story feel cluttered.

Furthermore, a return to Tatooine for Din Djarin and Grogu would feel underwhelming, considering the vast number of other planets available to explore in the Star Wars galaxy. It would also be odd to see Cad Bane and Cobb Vanth immediately engage in another shootout, especially since their last appearances both involved duels.

The banner probably appears on any LEGO set featuring characters or scenes from the world of The Mandalorian. This doesn’t mean we won’t see Vanth and Bane again – fans would still enjoy seeing them in future projects – it just means they likely won’t be in the movie planned for 2026.
