James Gunn Shuts Down Batman & Wonder Woman Casting Rumors For Superman Sequel Man Of Tomorrow

After the movie Superman did well in theaters, fans are eager to see Batman and Wonder Woman join the DC Universe. James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has said both characters are planned for future films, but actors haven’t been chosen to play them yet.

James Gunn recently addressed reports about actors auditioning for both hero and villain roles in the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. He clarified on Threads that the rumors about Batman and Wonder Woman auditions are not true, responding directly to a fan’s question on the matter.

James Gunn also clarified that the major casting news had already been revealed – it was Brainiac. He explained that most of the other significant roles will be filled by characters audiences are already familiar with, and they are currently casting for smaller parts.

He suggested the rumors likely started because they’re currently casting a female character for MoT, and people are guessing it could be Wonder Woman. Others speculated the role might be Starfire, Big Barda, or Jenny Sparks, all characters connected to future DC Universe plans.

There’s a lot of talk about who will play Batman and Wonder Woman in the new film. For Batman, fans are suggesting actors like Jonathan Bailey, Brandon Sklenar, and even Tom Welling from Smallville. As for Wonder Woman, Alexandra Daddario is a strong favorite, and Melissa Barrera is also being considered.

Last year, while talking about Wonder Woman and a storyline change in Peacemaker season 2, James Gunn said Wonder Woman will appear in the DC Universe at some point. However, he wasn’t sure if she currently exists within the established timeline.

This is a different direction than how he’s handling Batman and the many characters in his world – heroes and villains alike. For example, the character Clayface is getting his own movie later this year. Plus, there are two more Batman-related projects in the works. One, called The Brave and the Bold, will focus on Bruce Wayne and his son, Damian Wayne, as Robin, and will be officially part of the larger DC Universe storyline.

The second project is an animated stop-motion film called Dynamic Duo, focusing on the first two characters to take on the Robin role: Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. While Jason Todd’s story isn’t firmly established within the main DC storyline, it’s not expected to play a major part in the upcoming live-action DC Universe.

Although fans will have to be patient for casting announcements, the good news is that both Batman and Wonder Woman will definitely be part of the new DC Universe. James Gunn has confirmed they will appear, so it’s only a matter of time before details are revealed.
