Look, I’m a huge Bloodborne fan, and honestly, it feels like *everyone* is clamoring for a remake. Seriously, even people who haven’t had the chance to play it seem to get why we want one! But it’s starting to look like our hopes might be for nothing. A reliable source recently said that there’s absolutely no work being done on Bloodborne, not even a PC port. It’s really disappointing to hear.
Jeff Grubb, a well-known games journalist and co-owner of Giant Bomb, recently discussed industry news with fellow co-owner Mike Minotti on the Game Mess podcast. During the September 18th livestream, which was covered by Insider Gaming, they answered questions from viewers. One question asked for their thoughts on Sony releasing games on PC, specifically if Bloodborne might be one of them.
Minotti asked Grubb if the pace of PC ports seemed to have slowed down lately. He wondered if this was just his impression, or if there simply hadn’t been many games available to port recently.
According to Minotti, a Bloodborne remake or remaster is stalled because FromSoftware, the game’s developer, is currently focused on other projects – likely including Elden Ring DLC and whatever new ideas Hidetaka Miyazaki has. Grubb supported this idea, suggesting FromSoftware doesn’t seem interested in collaborating with Sony on it.
According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, a Bloodborne remake or remaster isn’t currently in development by FromSoftware. He recently looked into the possibility and his understanding is that there are no plans for one at this time, so fans shouldn’t anticipate it happening soon.
Grubb and Minotti were puzzled as to why the PC versions of Demon’s Souls (remake, 2020) and Gran Turismo 7 (2022) haven’t been released yet. However, they were especially surprised that a remake of Bloodborne, a game fans have been eagerly requesting, still hasn’t been announced for PC.
Bloodborne is a hugely popular action RPG that first came out 10 years ago on the PlayStation 4. Sadly, it hasn’t been released on any other platforms since. While a remake hasn’t been announced, Hidetaka Miyazaki hinted in February 2024 that the PlayStation 5 could be a good platform for one if it were to happen.
While Hidetaka Miyazaki’s ideas about what improved hardware could allow for sound promising, they don’t really matter for Bloodborne fans, as a port or remake hasn’t happened in a long time. A former PlayStation leader believes Miyazaki is simply too occupied to work on a Bloodborne remake, remaster, or even a performance update. Interestingly, Sony actually shut down a fan-made patch that improved the game’s frame rate.
It feels like we’ll never get another Bloodborne game, like it’s been buried for good. But you can’t completely rule it out. While there’s been no official announcement, anything is possible. Perhaps Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team are waiting for the perfect moment, or Sony is waiting for Miyazaki to assemble a new team. For now, there’s no progress, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be eventually. We just need to be patient.
Fans of FromSoftware’s Nightrein have a new challenge to tackle: a “Deep of Night” mode that significantly increases the game’s difficulty. It’s going to be tough, so good luck to all players!
