It’s honestly kind of sad to hear, but apparently Ninja – Tyler Blevins – is getting a lot of hate online these days. He says people are really rough on him, just because he’s not as big on Twitch as he used to be. It’s tough to see someone getting ‘berated’ just for not being at the top anymore.
For a while, Ninja was the most popular streamer on Twitch. The ex-Halo pro rose to fame during the early days of Fortnite, and even played with celebrities like Drake and Travis Scott.
He once had the most followers on Twitch, surpassing 19 million. But when he moved to Mixer, his popularity began to decline.
Even after going back to Twitch when Microsoft’s streaming service shut down, his audience numbers haven’t recovered to what they used to be, and his critics are quick to point that out.
Ninja reveals trolls remind him of “rough” last few years
Ninja shared with the BBC that he receives daily criticism from online trolls who constantly point out his declining popularity.
Before his 24-hour charity stream, he told the BBC that he used to regularly attract over 100,000 viewers per broadcast, but now typically gets around seven or eight thousand across both Twitch and YouTube.
The internet, and the people who harass others online, constantly remind me how difficult things have been lately. I face online criticism every single day.
I remember when Ninja really started something new! He was one of the first streamers to broadcast on multiple platforms at once. When he came back to Twitch, he wasn’t just there – he was streaming on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok *at the same time*! It was crazy, and now a lot of streamers do it, but Ninja was the one who really started the trend.
He’s still streaming regularly, and if I check TwitchTracker, he usually pulls in around 2,000 viewers. I remember seeing he really popped off last December – he had over 34,000 people watching a Fortnite stream, which was awesome!
Blevins mainly plays Epic Games’ battle royale, but sometimes switches over to League of Legends and Marvel Rivals.
