After you’ve gathered Iron, Thorium is the next material to aim for, and luckily, both resources are often found in the same desert areas. This guide will show you where to find Thorium, the best places to farm it, and how to use it.

How to Find Thorium in Hytale

Thorium Ore is usually found in desert areas, which typically appear in the southern parts of the game world. It’s a good idea to get a horse and head south to search for deserts. Within the desert, focus on areas like Golden Steps and Badlands, and look for natural formations made of Sandstone – things like dunes, hills, cliffs, and ravines. Thorium appears on the sides of these Sandstone structures. You can also find it underground in natural caves within the desert. Luckily, you can mine Thorium with any pickaxe, even the basic one you start with.

Here’s a helpful hint: The desert is a great place to find Iron. Look for it on the slopes of sandstone hills or cliffs, and also inside caves.

Hytale Thorium Farming Spots

There are two main ways to farm Thorium and these are:

  • Searching for it in the desert biomes on the sides of Sandstone cliffs, ravines and hills as well as caves.
  • Going to Volcanic Islands which are in open bodies of water and defeating the larger undead mobs there which drop it.
  • You can also find it randomly in chests while exploring but this isn’t the most reliable method.

No matter where you choose to farm Thorium, be sure to equip a Copper weapon and bring lots of food for healing. A mount, like a horse, will help you travel quickly, and it’s a good idea to place a chest nearby before you start. This way, you can store your Thorium and won’t lose it if you die, and you can even move the chest with you as you explore. When you’ve gathered enough Thorium, focus on crafting better weapons and armor. You don’t need to craft new tools, though, as an Iron Pickaxe is good enough for everything until you reach Adamantite.
