ChatGPT will let adults do more, including flirting and creating descriptions of drastic scenes

Sam Altman, the founder of OpenAI, announced upcoming changes to ChatGPT. He explained that while some users might not like these changes, others will find them helpful. One key update is that ChatGPT will now be able to identify the age of the person it’s talking to, which should improve the experience for adult users (see OpenAI for details).

ChatGPT will allow more adult users

OpenAI believes strongly in user freedom. Sam Altman explains that adults should be able to use their chatbot however they choose, even for things like practicing flirting or exploring difficult topics for creative projects, such as writing. He argues that adults deserve to be treated as responsible individuals.

We’re committed to giving users flexibility in how they use our tools, while still ensuring everything remains safe. As our technology improves and becomes easier to control, we’re continually expanding those freedoms.

The system first needs to identify whether a user is an adult or a minor, and the age prediction system assists with this. Access to different features within ChatGPT will then be determined by how the user interacts with the chatbot. If there’s any uncertainty about a user’s age, the system will default to the version designed for minors, and users may be asked to verify their age with identification.

OpenAI also assures users that their conversations with the chatbot will be kept private. While generally protected even from OpenAI staff, the system will scan for potential misuse – like threats to someone’s safety or plans for cyberattacks. If anything suspicious is detected, it will be reviewed by a human to confirm.

Sam Altman’s recent post on X caused some concern, with people questioning how the proposed system would actually safeguard privacy and secure personal information if it’s shared. However, the post was also generally well-received, and many users applauded the idea of keeping adult chatbot users separate from children.
