The final episode of Stranger Things did feature Eleven using her powers, but surprisingly, the show didn’t actually show this important moment happening. Now that the finale has aired, Stranger Things is officially over, despite rumors to the contrary. The popular Netflix series has concluded, and the ‘ConformityGate’ theory about its continuation has been disproven.
So, what’s next for the world of Stranger Things? Well, get ready for more! We’ll be seeing a novel next year, in 2026, penned by the original author, Caitlyn Schneiderhan. It’s called Stranger Things: One Way or Another, and it’s a Nancy Wheeler-focused mystery – sounds intriguing! And for those who prefer animation, there’s Tales from ’85 on the way, which will give us a fresh take on the story with a new, animated adventure featuring familiar faces. It’s clear the story isn’t over by a long shot!
This new series is set between the second and third seasons of the original, explaining events that previously weren’t shown. While the main story concluded with the finale, some viewers felt certain key events were left out, despite others being satisfied with how the characters’ stories ended.
Stranger Things’ Series Finale Doesn’t Show Eleven Jumping Into Vecna’s World
A noticeably missing scene was Eleven using her powers to travel from the Upside Down directly into Vecna’s realm, where she found Will, Joyce, Mike, Nancy, Lucas, Robin, Jonathan, Dustin, and Steve. Following Kali’s death, Eleven was left stranded in the Upside Down with Murray and Hopper.
Eleven was about to face Vecna in a final showdown, but she had a major hurdle to overcome. She needed to find a way to rise up into the air and enter Vecna’s world, which existed above the already-inverted dimension of the Upside Down, itself floating above Hawkins. Suddenly, Eleven had an idea and reassured a concerned Hopper and Murray that she could manage the ascent.
Strange, rocky islands floated in the purple and blue sky of the Upside Down, offering El a possible way to travel between them. But it was an incredibly dangerous plan. A fall from any of the islands would be fatal for El, and that would likely mean disaster for everyone else. The situation was extremely critical.
It felt like a strange choice for the show to skip over the actual moment El and Vecna jumped, immediately cutting to a scene inside Vecna’s world. Although the Stranger Things finale resolved some storylines well, leaving out this intense, pivotal scene was a puzzling and disappointing creative decision.
Showing Eleven’s Jump Scene Would Have Paid Off Her Training Scene
When viewers first saw Eleven in season 5, she was practicing for her showdown with Vecna by completing a challenging obstacle course. A clip of her using her powers to jump over a school bus was heavily featured in the season’s trailers and marketing materials.
Given how much training Eleven had been doing, it made sense to expect that skill to be important in the final showdown. She’d not only been practicing a lot on screen, but viewers had already seen her attempt a risky jump into the Upside Down. This jump was a major point of concern and argument when she and Hopper planned their break-in to Hawkins Lab.
I was totally on the edge of my seat when Eleven and Hopper were debating whether she could actually pull off that crucial move! She finally convinced him she was ready, and thankfully, it worked. It felt like such a big deal, I really expected it to lead to something massive in the finale. But honestly, it was so strange – we never saw what it was building towards. It just…didn’t go anywhere onscreen, which was a huge letdown!
As a huge fan, I was a little disappointed with how Stranger Things ended. It felt like they had a really strong path to a satisfying conclusion, but somehow missed it. I get that showing Eleven actually entering Vecna’s world would have been incredibly costly – all those special effects and stunt work! But honestly, it would have been worth it for a truly epic finish.
The Stranger Things Finale’s Missing Moment Highlights A Bigger Problem
Even before the latest developments, the final season of Stranger Things was already projected to be the most costly TV or streaming project ever. The finale was already packed with action. So, the problem doesn’t seem to be about money, but rather about how much time was needed to show everything, making it difficult to fit in El’s pivotal moment.
Even though the final episode was very long, it felt rushed and crammed with too much plot. This made important scenes, like Eleven’s crucial moment, feel underdeveloped. The show had a hard time finishing its story because it had so many characters and unresolved storylines, leading to things like Dustin’s bullies being completely left out of his graduation speech.
At the start of the season, the aggressive basketball players appeared to be key villains, consistently bullying Dustin with no repercussions. However, similar to Dr. Kay’s character, they were ultimately sidelined in the season finale. The show tried to tie up all loose ends, but simply ran out of time to fully address every storyline.
