When Iron Fist appeared in the MCU’s Phase 6 launch event, *Eyes of Wakanda*, Marvel Studios expanded the character’s abilities, distinguishing them from the powers Danny Rand previously demonstrated on screen. While *Eyes of Wakanda* largely explored Wakanda’s history, Episode 3 introduced Jorani, a female iteration of Iron Fist.
In Episode 3 of *Eyes of Wakanda*, the show revealed a major difference between Jorani’s Iron Fist and the version popularized by Danny Rand. Rand’s portrayal of the character, which gained a large following through his Netflix series now streaming on Disney+, is what many viewers are familiar with.
During a fight in the third episode, Jorani activated her Iron Fist ability by raising her fist. It immediately began to glow orange, mirroring the appearance of Danny Rand’s Iron Fist. But instead of a focused strike, when she slammed her fist into the ground, a wave of orange energy burst outwards from her, creating radiating lines of light.
That burst of energy was a major change to how Iron Fist’s powers have been showcased in the past.
As we discussed, in the *Iron Fist* series, Danny’s hand would glow orange to show he was about to use the power of the Iron Fist.
When Danny hit the ground, the powerful energy blast that Jorani usually created was missing. There was still an effect, but it wasn’t nearly as strong or noticeable. Instead of bright energy lines, it looked like orange dust was coming from his fist.
Look, even though they toned down the flashy visual effects of Danny’s abilities, don’t let that fool you. His ground strike still packs a serious punch – and I mean that literally. It wasn’t just hurting his opponents, it was really impacting the whole area around them. The power was definitely still there, even if it wasn’t as showy.
Jorani and Danny Rand are distinct characters, both having been the Iron Fist, which explains why they were depicted so differently in various ways.
The new Disney+ series, *Eyes of Wakanda*, is currently the only released project from Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show stars Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, and Steve Toussaint. Recent episodes have included connections to other Marvel properties – Episode 3 featured Iron Fist, and Episode 4 directly referenced a memorable scene from the original *Black Panther* movie.
Where Will Iron Fist Show Up Next?
The Iron Fist has appeared in several Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, including episodes of What If…? and Eyes of Wakanda. With these multiple appearances, it’s evident Marvel Studios has plans to bring a version of Iron Fist to live-action in the future, and it’s likely just a matter of time before it happens.
Given that both *Avengers: Doomsday* and *Avengers: Secret Wars* are expected to feature a huge number of Marvel heroes from various franchises and timelines, those films seem like the most probable places for Iron Fist to make an appearance.
Since the character hasn’t appeared in any live-action Marvel films yet, the studio might choose to delay introducing them in a future movie.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m really excited by the possibility of seeing Iron Fist – Danny Rand – show up in the upcoming *Daredevil: Born Again* series. With Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin now officially part of the main MCU, it feels like other heroes and villains from those old Netflix shows might be joining the fun too, and Iron Fist would be a fantastic addition!
I’m really excited to hear that Frank Castle, Jon Bernthal’s version of the Punisher, is going to be showing up more within the Marvel Studios universe! And it sounds like we’ll finally see Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones join the fun too. It makes me think we might even get to see Iron Fist make his debut in live-action, maybe in the upcoming *Daredevil: Born Again*, or perhaps in something that brings all those fantastic Netflix heroes together. I can’t wait!
