Marvel Studios Debuts First Look At The New King Of Wakanda

Marvel Studios has given fans their first glimpse of Winston Duke as M’Baku, the new King of Wakanda, in the latest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. M’Baku’s ambition to lead Wakanda has been apparent since the first Black Panther movie, where he even challenged T’Challa for the throne. Though he lost that battle, the death of both T’Challa and Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever created an opportunity for him to take the throne. While Shuri was originally next in line due to her royal family ties, she chose not to participate in her coronation. This ultimately led to M’Baku becoming the new King of Wakanda at the conclusion of Wakanda Forever.

Marvel Studios surprised fans with a fourth teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday during showings of Avatar: Fire and Ash. The trailer revealed M’Baku taking on the role of the new King of Wakanda.

The preview showed M’Baku with an updated version of his armor from the previous Black Panther films. His previous costume already had an improved wooden chest piece, but the new armor seems to include Vibranium and high-tech features, probably created by Shuri. Fans also believe the blue details in both Shuri and M’Baku’s costumes suggest they’ve formed an alliance with Namor and the people of Talokan.

M’Baku continues to wear his signature armored forearm guards and spikes, along with the fake fur on his shoulders and arms. In a preview clip, he’s seen in a desert setting with Shuri and members of the Dora Milaje, before meeting Ben Grimm from the Fantastic Four.

The meeting between M’Baku and The Thing hints at a surprising partnership between these two Marvel heroes, promising plenty of funny moments in the upcoming Doomsday event.

As a big movie fan, I was really moved by the ending of Wakanda Forever. Seeing M’Baku become king felt like a perfect full-circle moment for his character. He started out as someone who wanted Wakanda to stay separate from the world, but by the end, he truly stepped up as a leader for everyone.

Details are scarce about the new leader’s plans, but recent reports about Doomsday suggest he may be continuing T’Challa’s legacy of collaborating with Earth’s heroes when facing a major crisis.

Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, James Marsden, and Patrick Stewart are among the stars joining Winston Duke, Letitia Wright, Tenoch Huerta, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18, 2026.

What Is M’Baku’s Role in Avengers: Doomsday?

As a film fan, I’ve been really impressed with M’Baku’s look in the newer films. They’ve clearly upped his status – his costume feels much more regal and royal, but still keeps that connection to his Jabari roots. It really shows he’s become a more important figure in Wakanda, with a design that’s both powerful and refined.

I’m so excited after watching the latest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday! It looks like Wakanda and the Fantastic Four are teaming up, which is incredible. They’ll be working together to fight whatever big threat is coming to Earth-616, while it seems the other heroes might be dealing with something else in another dimension. I can already picture M’Baku fighting with Ben Grimm and the rest of the Fantastic Four – that’s going to be amazing to watch!

M’Baku could play a role similar to Wakanda’s in Avengers: Infinity War, helping to defend against a new threat. Not only does he represent Wakanda alongside Shuri, but he also has the power to mobilize the country’s full strength when needed.

Shuri is currently in need of a mentor, particularly after losing her brother, T’Challa, and mother, Queen Ramonda. M’Baku could be a valuable source of guidance for her during this difficult time.
