10 Most Anticipated New Movies of 2026

The new year brought a wave of exciting movies. While sequels continued to be popular in 2025, original films like Sinners, Weapons, and One Battle After Another also stood out. We saw fresh interpretations of classic stories like Frankenstein and Superman, and 2026 looks set to deliver even more great films.

2026 promises a diverse lineup of movies, with both new stories and continuations of existing franchises hitting the big screen. Many of these films boast talented directors, popular actors, or are based on beloved properties, creating a lot of anticipation among fans. While it remains to be seen which ones will be successes, here are ten upcoming films to keep an eye on.

Wuthering Heights Is a Controversial New Adaptation

This new film is inspired by Emily Brontë’s famous novel, Wuthering Heights, and tells a heartbreaking story of love and revenge. Directed by Emerald Fennell, it features Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff. This version updates the story with actors of different ages and racial backgrounds than the original characters.

The first trailer for Wuthering Heights sparked debate, using provocative imagery and music by Charlie XCX. While some fans of the classic novel have criticized the trailer’s sensual style as being different from the book, others are intrigued by director Emerald Fennell’s take on the story. Adding to the excitement, Charlie XCX is releasing an album to coincide with the film’s release on February 13th.

The Bride! Will Finally Give the Bride of Frankenstein Her Due

Many films have been based on or inspired by Frankenstein, but The Bride! promises a fresh perspective. Directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and featuring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, the movie is set in 1930s Chicago and tells the story of Frankenstein’s creature, nicknamed Frankie, and his lover, the Bride. While the exact plot details are still under wraps, the trailer suggests a thrilling, *Bonnie and Clydestyle adventure, and audiences are already captivated.

Despite the recent success of Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, you might expect people to be tired of this classic story. However, the film offers a fresh take, particularly through the creature’s companion, setting it apart from other adaptations. The impressive cast and the long-awaited release date of March 6th – after several postponements – are also generating a lot of excitement among audiences.

Hoppers Is Pixar’s Next Original Movie

The new animated film, directed by Daniel Chong and featuring the voices of Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm, and Meryl Streep (who plays a woman whose consciousness is transferred into a robotic beaver!), tells the story of a group of animals who band together to oppose a nearby construction company. This leads to unexpected results. After some recent disappointments, Pixar fans are hoping this movie will be a big success.

While the idea of a human transforming into an animal isn’t new – the movie Hoppers even playfully acknowledges its resemblance to Avatar – fans are thrilled to see director Daniel Chong, known for We Bare Bears, making his Pixar debut. Hopefully, this will draw enough moviegoers to theaters when it’s released on March 6th.

Project Hail Mary Could Be the Next Great Space Epic

Based on Andy Weir’s novel, the movie Project Hail Mary stars Ryan Gosling and is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The film follows a scientist named Ryland Grace as he travels into space on a mission to save Earth from a failing sun. Along the way, he encounters an alien he nicknames Rocky. While book fans were initially worried about a film adaptation, many now seem hopeful about how the story has been brought to life.

Early signs suggest that the film Project Hail Mary stays true to the original story. It’s already attracting a wide audience thanks to its impressive special effects, popular actors, and the talented team behind it, performing very well upon release. We’ll find out if it truly delivers on the excitement on March 20th.

The Drama Is a Star-Powered Romantic Dramedy

Kristoffer Borgli’s upcoming film, The Drama, stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson. The movie centers on a couple whose relationship is shaken by surprising revelations just before their wedding. Details about the plot are scarce, though a fabricated wedding announcement in The Boston Globe offered a glimpse into their story. The Drama is set to be one of three highly anticipated releases in 2026, alongside The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three.

The impressive cast initially grabbed people’s attention, and the mysterious marketing campaign has only made the movie more intriguing. Fans of the director, Borgli, expect The Drama to be uniquely bizarre and surprising. As hinted by the playful fake wedding announcement, mark your calendars for April 3rd!

Disclosure Day Is a Steven Spielberg Original

The upcoming film, directed by Steven Spielberg and featuring Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, and Colin Firth, has released a first look trailer. The trailer centers around Blunt’s character, a weather reporter, who unexpectedly begins speaking an unknown language on live TV, suggesting that aliens may already be among us. Though plot details are scarce, fans of Spielberg are thrilled to see him return to the science fiction genre.

Before the first trailer came out, people knew the movie simply as Spielberg’s UFO project. But even just the director’s involvement generated a lot of excitement. Adding to that, the film boasts a fantastic cast, a score by John Williams, and a completely new story that hasn’t been revealed in any trailers. Fans are eagerly awaiting its release on June 12th to finally discover what it’s about.

Moana Is Disney’s Next Big Live-Action Remake

The upcoming live-action film, Moana, is based on the popular 2016 animated movie. It tells the story of a young Polynesian girl who teams up with a demigod to save her island and the world. Thomas Kail is directing, and the film stars Dwayne Johnson and newcomer Catherine Laga’aia. While some of Disney’s recent remakes have been hits and misses, this one looks particularly promising.

Some fans are questioning Disney’s decision to remake Moana so soon, as the original film is only ten years old. However, Disney’s recent live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch performed well in theaters, so expectations for Moana are high. We’ll find out if it can live up to the success of Lilo & Stitch when it’s released on July 10th.

The Odyssey Will Be an Epic of Mythic Proportions

As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited about Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey. It’s based on the classic Greek story of Odysseus and his long journey home after the Trojan War – you know, filled with all sorts of challenges. After how amazing Oppenheimer was, everyone’s been eagerly awaiting this one, and the buzz is just getting louder and louder!

As a huge fan, I was so excited when tickets went on sale for The Odyssey in IMAX – a whole year before it even hit theaters! And they sold out instantly. The team behind the movie is really trying to get people back to the cinema experience, showing exclusive footage to theater audiences before releasing it online. If you didn’t manage to snag tickets this time, don’t worry! There will be tons of chances to see it when it officially comes out on July 17th.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew Will Kick Off a New Era of Chronicles

Greta Gerwig has written and will direct a new movie based on C.S. Lewis’s The Magician’s Nephew, aiming to relaunch the Narnia film series. This film will begin the story with the sixth book in the series, a prequel that explores how Narnia came to be, before the events of the other novels. Despite some initial criticism, many fans are optimistic about this new adaptation.

As a huge fan of the Chronicles of Narnia, I was really bummed when the movies stopped after the third book. So, I admit I was a little hesitant when I heard about a reboot. But honestly, most of us Narnia lovers are just thrilled to see the series get another shot after all these years! I’m really looking forward to Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, which is hitting theaters on November 26th and then streaming on Netflix on Christmas Day – perfect timing for the holidays!

Werwulf Is a Mysterious Monster Movie

Robert Eggers, the director behind acclaimed horror films like The Witch and the recent Nosferatu remake, is now working on Werwulf. The movie will feature Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe, and is set in 13th-century England. While the exact story is still a secret, it’s expected to be about a werewolf. Given Eggers’ track record, horror fans are anticipating another exceptionally well-made film.

Werewolves have been featured in movies for a long time, but recently, the genre hasn’t been very successful. There’s hope that a new film, directed by Eggers, will revitalize it with its commitment to historical detail and genuinely frightening atmosphere. This historically-focused horror movie is scheduled for release on Christmas Day.
