The show premiered in 2011 and quickly became known for its gripping, intense, and often shocking storylines, earning a dedicated fanbase over its eight seasons. However, the final season, released in 2019, disappointed many longtime viewers, and several cast members weren’t pleased with how their characters’ journeys concluded. A notable exception was , who portrayed Sansa Stark and felt satisfied with her character’s ending.
It’s been nearly seven years since the controversial finale of Game of Thrones aired, and George R.R. Martin still hasn’t finished the books the show was based on. While many fans disliked how the stories ended for characters like Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and Bran Stark, Sophie Turner, who played Sansa, felt Sansa becoming Queen in the North was a fitting conclusion for her character.
In an interview with The Direct, Juno Temple was asked about potentially reprising her role in one of the many spin-offs that creator Martin has hinted at. While she playfully said they’d need to offer her a good deal, she admitted that returning to the show would be difficult. She also mentioned she didn’t necessarily disagree with the show’s controversial ending.
As a huge fan of ‘Game of Thrones,’ I actually loved how Sansa’s story wrapped up. Honestly, I felt like she got the ending she deserved, more than anyone else, really. Because I was so satisfied with her arc, I’m just not sure I’d even want to revisit the show – I’m happy with how it ended for her.
‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoffs Are Back in Fashion

HBO
After Game of Thrones concluded in 2019, HBO was exploring over seven different ideas for spin-off shows. However, most of those projects were cancelled, and only House of the Dragon moved forward after the somewhat controversial final season of the original series.
The prequel series is returning for its third season this year, with plans for a fourth and final season in the next few years. Plus, a new spinoff called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be released later this month. This is the second series based on stories by George R.R. Martin to be produced.

In a recent blog post, Martin mentioned that the studio is once again exploring ideas for more shows set in the Game of Thrones universe – including prequels, sequels, and spinoffs. While the previously discussed sequel focusing on Jon Snow doesn’t appear to be in the works, it’s possible we might see familiar faces from the original series return. Right now, fans are excited for the release of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on January 18th, hoping it will revive the franchise’s reputation – or potentially signal its final decline.
