Now that Stranger Things has finished, we finally know what happens to all the characters we’ve come to love. Interestingly, if you saw Finn Wolfhard’s interview with Jimmy Fallon back in 2023, you might have already guessed the fate of one of the heroes from Hawkins.
The final episode of Stranger Things featured heartbreaking deaths, a fantastic soundtrack, and some frustrating plot issues, but it also successfully addressed a major weakness with Netflix’s overall strategy.
So, the ending didn’t really leave us hanging for a Season 6, but it sounds like they’re not done with the Stranger Things universe! I heard they’re planning a bunch of spinoffs, including an animated series called Tales From ’85, which sounds pretty cool.
During a conversation about the future of the series in 2023, Finn Wolfhard unintentionally revealed a major plot point. Be warned: SPOILERS follow…
Finn Wolfhard revealed Eleven’s fate three years ago

The final scene of Stranger Things left Eleven’s fate uncertain. Either she remained trapped in the Upside Down, making the ultimate sacrifice for her friends, or she successfully used her powers to get out and is now living secretly in a quiet town, where Mike believes she’s found happiness and peace.
Regardless, Eleven is still out there, just as Finn Wolfhard predicted during a 2023 interview with Jimmy Fallon.
Wolfhard shared that he often jokes about the possibility of returning for more Stranger Things in the future. He imagines they’ll be asked to reprise their roles in 20 years, even when they’re older and out of shape, desperately searching for Eleven.
He stopped speaking, simply saying, “You know, stuff like that.” But it was already too late – anyone watching closely would have realized Eleven would be absent by the series’ end.

Wolfhard shared that he suggested a possible direction for a future storyline to the creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers, and they agreed it was accurate.
He explained that he told them, “If you’re going to make a spin-off, this is the story to tell.” He said the Duffer brothers then exchanged a look and asked if they could speak with him privately.
They stopped me and asked how I’d come up with the idea, implying it wasn’t supposed to be shared. I explained that no one had told me, and I’d simply thought it would be a good way to improve things. They then told me to keep it a secret.
Keep an eye out for the first Stranger Things spinoff, Tales From ’85, coming later this year! And if you’re craving more from the Upside Down, check out our lists of the best Stranger Things characters and episodes.
