The show High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson, has presented several intriguing cases that Morgan has solved within a single episode. However, the season one finale left a major art heist investigation unfinished. Fortunately, the popular ABC series will return on January 6, 2026, after a break, and the showrunner, Todd Harthan, has provided news regarding another ongoing mystery: what happened to Roman Gilory.
TopMob recently interviewed the creator of High Potential before the midseason finale. Along with discussing the developing relationship between Morgan and Rhys, I asked about the strong fan interest in the character Roman and how the show planned to address it. The creator suggested that viewers will get significant answers about Roman as the season continues. He stated:
Okay, things are really starting to pick up now, and I have a feeling all the loose ends are going to tie themselves up. The second half of this is where everything really comes together and blossoms – a lot’s going to happen, and I’m excited to see it all unfold!
The phrase “all kinds of things” is very broad and doesn’t guarantee we’ll get every question answered. However, the showrunner also pointed out that we haven’t seen much about Roman’s current location, explaining that:
We’ve been building up to this gradually, but in these final episodes, we’re finally going to address some important issues that our audience has been eager to learn about, and that we’ve been putting off for too long.
It’s getting a bit ridiculous how much remains unknown about Roman, especially since Mekhi Phifer’s character, Arthur, hasn’t been able to offer much insight either. Arthur doesn’t appreciate Morgan and Ava constantly reaching out for updates, and things are even more complicated now that he’s being followed and intimidated by strange men who are lurking in his car. Let’s hope Arthur can handle this!
Even if Roman can’t be on the show in person, it’s important to finally find out the real reasons for his absence, how he’s still able to monitor Morgan and communicate with Arthur, and what he’s been doing instead of being completely isolated.

Bringing Roman back could really complicate things for Morgan’s current relationships. She’s got options, including Rhys, who’s a bit suspicious, and many fans are hoping she’ll end up with Karadec. (Even though she isn’t a police officer, I’m not ready for them to become a couple just yet.)
We don’t know if Morgan still has romantic feelings for Roman if he returns. A lot of time has passed, and she’s moved on and even had children with someone else, so their past might not be a major issue. Ultimately, Roman’s return is more about helping Ava, though it would be great for Morgan to finally resolve her feelings about him as well.
Hang in there, everyone! Exciting news about High Potential is coming soon. Take a look at the preview to get a sneak peek at what’s next.
Season 2 of High Potential premieres on ABC Tuesday, January 6th at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. New episodes will be available to stream on Hulu or Disney+ starting the following day.
