A Disney World employee likely prevented a serious accident this week when a large prop unexpectedly broke loose during the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The prop, a large boulder used in the show, was sent flying towards guests, and the employee bravely put themselves in danger to intervene.

A Disney employee is being hailed a hero after quickly reacting to a dangerous set malfunction and preventing a 400-pound boulder from hitting audience members. A full video of the incident is now available.
There’s a lot of discussion about whether Disney’s recent focus on hiring based on diversity, equity, and inclusion – specifically prioritizing race and other protected characteristics over qualifications – might be a contributing factor to current issues.

A video circulating online shows a large boulder rolling onto the stage during a performance, appearing from a smoke effect. It headed towards where the audience was sitting, but a cast member quickly ran forward and was hit while trying to stop it. They fell to the ground, and other cast members immediately helped bring the boulder to a complete halt.
Disney later confirmed that the Cast Member received immediate medical care and is recovering.
A Split-Second Act of Bravery
What stands out most in the footage is not the malfunction itself—but the Cast Member’s reaction.
Rather than retreat or freeze, he moved forward.

Watching the videos, it really looked like that boulder was going straight for those guests! While we can’t know exactly where it would have ended up, that Cast Member was incredible – he bravely put himself in front of it, taking the hit and slowing it down just enough so others could jump in and help. It was a truly selfless act, and I’m so impressed by his quick thinking and courage.
That decision was not part of the show.
It was instinct. And it was heroic.
Disney Cast Members are well-trained professionals, but it’s important to remember they are people too, not objects to be run into. Their quick thinking and willingness to help in a difficult moment likely prevented injuries and deserves to be truly appreciated.
Disney Confirms Injury, Recovery
Disney reported that a Cast Member was injured but could walk on their own. They received medical care right away and are now recovering.

No guests were hurt.
That outcome is being celebrated—and rightly so—but it also raises an unavoidable question.
How Did This Happen?
Although we commend the Cast Member’s courage, the circumstances that led to it should have been avoided entirely.
This wasn’t a small mistake. A 400-pound stage prop falling off its track and heading towards the audience was a major safety issue – it could have caused a terrible accident.
And it does not exist in a vacuum.
A Pattern Disney Can No Longer Ignore
Over the past few years, Walt Disney World has experienced a number of concerning safety issues, damaging its previously strong reputation for well-run operations.

Confirmed reporting has documented:
- Ceiling collapses over guest walkways
- Sewage leaks in guest-accessible areas
- Multiple fires at EPCOT both “on stage” and in backstage facilities
- A ferry boat crashed into a dock at the Magic Kingdom Transportation and Ticket Center, reportedly injuring guests.
It’s easy to overlook any single event, but when you look at them all together, they create a pattern that’s hard to ignore.

Disney has always been known for its meticulous attention to detail and commitment to safety, creating a sense of security for visitors. This is especially crucial during live shows with stunts, where any lapse in safety measures can have serious consequences.
The House of Mouse Needs Answers
This Cast Member should be commended, supported, and celebrated.
Disney also needs to explain how a dangerous incident happened during a live show, where a 400-pound prop unexpectedly broke free and put the audience at risk.

Was it maintenance? Wear and tear? Oversight? Staffing pressures? Budget constraints?
Those questions are not accusations—they’re necessary.
Cast Members shouldn’t ever have to risk their safety because of equipment problems. Relying on someone to be heroic in a dangerous situation shouldn’t be how we ensure things are safe; safety measures should prevent those situations from happening in the first place.
Disney owes its Cast Members—and its guests—better than that.
