Released in 2008, Lake Mungo is a horror film directed by Joel Anderson, made with a small budget. While not widely known, it’s a favorite of horror director Mike Flanagan. The movie includes a twist similar to the famous ‘bent-neck lady’ scene, where a young girl appears to be haunted by a ghost – ultimately revealed to be her own – before her death.
I was so blown away by the movie – it felt incredibly real, like a documentary, and the characters were so well-developed. The story just grabbed me! I even read Flanagan’s review on Letterboxd, and he said one scene was so intense it actually made him jump up and walk away from the screen. That’s how powerful it was!
