While France said goodbye to a legend in Brigitte Bardot, they welcomed a new, less divisive figure: George Clooney. Last weekend, Clooney, his wife Amal, and their twins were granted French citizenship. Though often associated with his home on Lake Como, the Clooneys actually spend the majority of their time at a countryside home in France. Clooney has praised France’s strong privacy laws, explaining on French radio that it’s where his family feels most content. This new citizenship offers his eight-year-old children a better chance at a normal life, despite their father being a famous actor.
While George Clooney appears happy slowing down his career, his new life in France might inspire him to work with French filmmakers. It would be amazing to see him in a film directed by someone like Claire Denis, though that’s likely just a dream. On the bright side, France’s strict privacy laws mean we probably won’t see intrusive paparazzi photos of him at his vineyard, which is probably a good thing, even if it’s a little disappointing.
