‘It Was Undeniable.’ Zack Snyder’s Christmas Gift To Us All Is Henry Cavill In The ‘Original Superman Suit’

Comic books remain incredibly popular, but DC Comics has gone through some big changes lately. They’ve moved away from the old DCEU (available on HBO Max) and are now building a new shared universe called the DCU, led by co-CEO James Gunn. We’ve seen the first announcements for the first phase, called Gods and Monsters. Meanwhile, Zack Snyder has been sharing old content from his time working on DC projects, and recently surprised fans with a Christmas morning photo of Henry Cavill wearing the original Superman suit worn by Christopher Reeve.

As fans eagerly anticipate new DC films like Supergirl and Man of Tomorrow, Zack Snyder has been revisiting the past and gaining followers on Instagram. He initially shared a photo of Henry Cavill when he first joined the platform, but his latest post features Cavill in his classic Superman suit. You can see it below!

It’s amazing how Christopher Reeve’s Superman remains the definitive film version of the character, and his vibrant costume is a big part of why it’s so memorable. Zack Snyder had Henry Cavill try on that classic suit as a test for Man of Steel, and he clearly looked perfect in it. That’s why Cavill became the DC Extended Universe’s Superman, appearing in three films—four if you include the Snyder Cut.

Zack Snyder posted a photo on Instagram for his over 578,000 followers, often sharing nostalgic content from his DC work. Many fans remember how the success of Man of Steel launched the DC shared universe, and how Henry Cavill reprised his role as Superman in Black Adam. Sadly, those plans for a connected universe were cancelled soon after.

James Gunn’s Superman movie was a big success in theaters, and David Corenswet was praised for perfectly capturing the character’s appearance and optimistic spirit. However, many fans still prefer Henry Cavill as Superman, which explains why any photos Zack Snyder shares of him quickly become popular online. Henry Cavill’s last time playing Superman on screen was in Justice League, though the Snyder Cut showed us Zack Snyder’s original ideas for the character. After briefly announcing his return in Black Adam, those plans were canceled when DC decided to start over with a completely new universe.

Even after all this time, many fans still want Warner Bros. to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse, allowing director Zack Snyder to finish his planned sequels to Justice League. While there’s no sign that this will happen, fans are still holding out hope.
