Man, The CW’s Supergirl had some seriously awesome moments. Everyone always talks about Supergirl being this beacon of hope, and her speeches are always super inspiring, telling people to be good to each other. But honestly, the most memorable line in the whole show doesn’t even come from her! It’s from Cat Grant, Kara’s boss at CatCo. She starts off seeming like this quirky, demanding boss, but she quickly becomes a really important mentor to Kara – both as Kara Danvers and as Supergirl. She really became one of the most iconic characters on the show, in my opinion.

Once Kara realizes she can use her abilities to help others, she finds it challenging to juggle her life as a superhero with her everyday human existence. Her boss, Cat Grant, quickly sees beyond Kara’s friendly exterior and offers guidance – sometimes subtle, sometimes direct – to help her embrace both sides of herself. Ultimately, Kara understands that Supergirl can only thrive because Kara Danvers exists. As Clark points out, being Kara is just as vital as being Supergirl, and it’s thanks to Cat that Kara remains true to herself.

Cat Grant Fiercely Encourages Kara Danvers To Follow Her Dreams

By the second season of Supergirl, it was clear that Cat Grant cared about Kara, despite being a demanding boss. While Cat often acted tough and even threatened Kara’s job, she consistently showed leniency, allowing her to take time off and eventually letting go of her suspicions about Supergirl.

During the first season, Cat played a key role in helping Supergirl develop her public persona. She gave her the name ‘Supergirl’ and taught her that being a ‘girl’ wasn’t a sign of weakness. Cat used the media to both promote and question Supergirl’s actions, leading to a complex but beneficial relationship between the two.

In the season two premiere of Supergirl, Cat Grant is surprisingly more worried about Kara Danvers than about Supergirl. She realizes Kara is struggling to find direction in her life and challenges her to decide on a career path at CatCo within one day. Kara is unsure of what she truly wants to do, but Cat sees past her uncertainty and offers some valuable advice.

We all settle into who we are and what feels comfortable, but to truly live, we need to keep challenging ourselves and taking risks. Don’t be afraid to keep exploring and trying new things.

We see this when Kara, despite no longer being interested in James after previously having a crush on him, still forces herself to go on a date with him. Cat gently points out that Kara needs to move on from being defined by her old role as Cat’s assistant, and this resonates deeply with Kara. By the end of the episode, Kara decides she wants to become a reporter, hoping to connect with and help the people in her community. Cat, unsurprisingly, had anticipated this all along.

Cat Grant, portrayed by , was arguably the most compelling character on The CW’s Supergirl. She was a strong, intelligent, witty, and fiercely loyal woman with a lot of depth. Cat skillfully juggled her powerful public image with the challenges of being a devoted mother and wife. Though often questioned as a woman in a leadership role, she consistently proved her strength and outmaneuvered anyone who underestimated her. Despite lacking superpowers, Cat Grant had a significant impact on the world of Supergirl.
