‘Suicide Squad’s Daniela Melchior Casts Doubt on a DCU Return [Exclusive]

Okay, so I’m really excited about Daniela Melchior‘s new movie, Anaconda! It’s a reboot of the classic creature feature, and it’s hilarious to think she’s going from battling snakes with Jack Black and Paul Rudd to… well, everything else she’s done. Speaking of ‘everything else,’ I loved her as Ratcatcher 2 in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. And with Gunn now running DC, and that Supergirl trailer dropping, everyone’s thinking about what’s next for the DCU. It’s a cool time to be a comic book movie fan, and I’m definitely keeping an eye on what Daniela does next!

Gunn and Melchior are friends, and just as Gunn often does with actors he likes, he cast her in another film, this time as Ura in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Because Melchior previously starred in Road House and has a connection to the person now leading DC Universe creative decisions, fans are wondering if she might reprise her role as Ratcatcher 2 in future DC projects.

During a recent conversation with MovieWeb, Daniela Melchior was asked about the new Supergirl trailer and if she’d discussed potentially reprising her role as Ratcatcher with James Gunn for a future project. Melchior enthusiastically complimented the trailer, but her response suggested she might not be returning to the DC Universe, stating:

We didn’t discuss the DC movie, but I saw the trailer and really enjoyed it. Supergirl looks fantastic, and I’m excited to see the full film – I’m really curious about how it will be!

Is Ratcatcher 2 Destined to Join James Gunn’s DCU?

Warner Bros. Pictures

James Gunn’s DC Universe is doing well, boosted by the popularity of Superman and the second season of Peacemaker. There are many other promising projects in the works, too. Supergirl is scheduled for release in June 2026, and the Lanterns TV series should follow shortly after that summer, though it was originally planned for an earlier release. The DCU is also trying something new with horror elements, as Clayface is set to premiere in theaters in September.

If Ratcatcher appears in the new DC Universe, her history in The Suicide Squad offers a clear path for her introduction. Just like Peacemaker, who transitioned from that same movie into the DCU, Ratcatcher could follow a similar route. The DCU has already shown it acknowledges The Suicide Squad, referencing Rick Flag Sr.’s grief over his son’s death in the film. Given how important The Suicide Squad was to the Peacemaker series, it would be easy to bring Ratcatcher 2 into the DCU through connections to that show.

The animated series Creature Commandos offers some interesting potential for the future of the DC Universe. Not only does it include Rick Flag Sr., but it also features Weasel from The Suicide Squad. Ratcatcher 2’s skills and backstory would also be a great addition to the team, bringing their unique ability to control rats to the creature-focused group. Although James Gunn and Peter Safran haven’t publicly talked about bringing Ratcatcher 2 back yet, there are plenty of opportunities for the character to appear within the new DCU. With Gunn’s history of taking creative risks, the future of the franchise looks bright, and could very well include Daniela Melchior reprising her role.
