Margot Robbie’s Heartwarming Story About Helping Her Mom After Landing Wolf Of Wall Street Will Give You All The Holiday Feels

Margot Robbie’s career really took off after she appeared in The Wolf of Wall Street. Before becoming famous with roles in Wolf and Barbie, and even before a viral moment drew attention to her, she was working as a struggling actress. She’s said her mother helped her out financially several times, and she always remembered that support. She even kept a list of what she owed, but she was able to pay her mother back generously a few years later.

After Robbie secured a role in Martin Scorsese’s hit drama starring Leonardo DiCaprio in 2013, her mother owned a house in Southport, Australia, worth $490,000. There was still a mortgage on the property, but Robbie knew exactly how much her mother owed.

Margot Robbie earned over $360,000 from her role in The Wolf of Wall Street, and used the money to pay off a debt to her mother on her 60th birthday. Her mother told News.AU that Margot not only repaid the money, but added extra, making it the “best” birthday ever. Though, it’s likely Margot’s own best birthday was her extravagant 24-hour party.

Robbie confirmed the story herself, and it’s one of those heartwarming tales that’s sure to evoke strong emotions this holiday season. So, what did she say?

I still have that old paper where I listed everything I owed my mom. She was incredibly generous – she’d even take money from our house mortgage to help me out. I always felt a strong obligation to repay her, and eventually, when I was able to, I paid off the entire mortgage as a way of thanking her.

It’s becoming increasingly common for successful people, especially athletes and actors who suddenly come into money, to help their parents financially. While paying off a parent’s house isn’t a brand new idea – many athletes, like WNBA star Angel Reese and NFL player Malik Nabers, have done similar things for their moms – it’s a generous way to show appreciation for years of support.

It might seem like a common gesture, but it was still a really generous and considerate thing to do. This is especially true considering Robbie earned significantly less than most high-profile sports figures for her work on Wolf, although she later made over $50 million for Barbie. When CBS asked her about it, Robbie downplayed the act, suggesting it wasn’t a big deal. She’s known for being humble, though.

I told my mom not to worry about the mortgage, that it was completely taken care of. Anyone would do the same thing for their mother – it’s just natural to want to help.

But Sarie Kessler’s mother felt very differently. Once the story became public, Sarie confessed she found it amusing and was incredibly proud of her daughter.

I’m incredibly proud of her. She’s a wonderful young woman who knows what she wants and consistently works hard to achieve her goals. We’re all so proud of her, and it made my birthday the best one yet.

It was over ten years ago, and her daughter had a bright future ahead. I doubt her mother ever imagined she’d be playing characters like Harley Quinn or starring as Barbie. But if this story hasn’t warmed your heart this holiday season, I’ll be truly surprised!
