James Jordan is a familiar face in Taylor Sheridan’s shows, and he’s used to working with big stars. But he says his latest project, Landman, felt special. Jordan, who plays Dale Bradley, shared his excitement about working with Billy Bob Thornton and Sam Elliott, and Elliott’s reaction to Jordan’s enthusiasm made the experience even more memorable.
Jordan has experience working on several Sheridan productions, including Mayor of Kingstown, 1883, Yellowstone, and Lioness, as well as Landman. This has given him the chance to work with well-known actors like Jeremy Renner, Kevin Costner, Nicole Kidman, and Zoe Saldaña. However, he recently shared that acting alongside Timoth Thornton and Elliott in a season of Landman was particularly impactful, as he discussed in a Paramount+ video.
There were just the three of us on set, and after one take, I looked at Sam Elliott and Billy Bob Thornton. Being seasoned professionals, they immediately confirmed it was a good take and we moved on to waiting for the next shot. I actually said out loud to them that I couldn’t believe I was standing there acting alongside them. Growing up in a small town in Missouri, I’d spent years watching their films, and now here I was, working with them.

You can watch most of the shows discussed, including Landman, on Paramount+. Subscriptions begin at $7.99 monthly, or $59.99 annually. An ad-free plan is available for $12.99 per month. See the deal here.
Having Sam Elliott join the cast of Landman was huge news. Billy Bob Thornton was actually moved when he heard Elliott, known for his role in 1883, would be playing his father. Elliott just has a certain presence and a strong body of work that evokes that kind of reaction, and I think it’s fantastic!
What’s really great is how Sam Elliott reacted when James Jordan told him about working with him and the actor who played Tommy. James recalled that Sam responded to his enthusiasm by saying:
Sam Elliott turned to me and said, ‘We’re lucky to have you here, buddy.’ That really captures the kind of guys Sam and Billy are.
That’s really kind, and it makes me appreciate this group of actors even more. But Jordan’s story continued. He remembered how Elliott reacted when Jordan confessed he was a big fan of both actors, and then he described what it was like to actually work with them, saying:
Working with them feels incredibly freeing. They encourage you to be vulnerable and truly explore your craft, and that’s all you can ask for as an actor. Everyone comes prepared to work hard and collaborate, which makes the whole process amazing. I’ve had some great experiences, but working with Landman has been the best by far.

This story aligns with what the actors have shared about working with Elliott and Thornton. In interviews with Elliott, Thornton, and Jacob Lofland (who played Cooper), they all emphasized the positive experience of collaborating. Lofland specifically described it as a “magical time” and said he felt honored to act with such “legends.”
It’s clear James Jordan’s positive feelings are shared, and that makes me really look forward to future episodes of Landman. Viewers with a Paramount+ subscription can continue watching Season 2 every Sunday through early 2026. Thankfully, the show has been renewed for a Season 3, meaning this talented cast will likely get to continue working together.
