Netflix consistently achieves high viewership with its new releases, but the recent Nielsen report suggests Stranger Things Season 5 may have reached an unprecedented level of success, potentially setting a record that will be hard to beat. The report, which covered the week of November 24th, showed that Stranger Things garnered 8.46 billion minutes of viewing time – approximately 140 million hours – worldwide.
According to What’s on Netflix, the recent viewership numbers for Season 5 only cover the first 3.5 days after its release this week. Nielsen reports that Season 5 made up about 57% of total viewing time, while viewers spent the remaining 43% rewatching the earlier seasons. This new record breaks the previous one by over a billion minutes – a record previously held by Stranger Things, set during the premiere week of its fourth season.
The new episodes will arrive on Netflix December 25th, with the final episodes concluding the series on December 31st. We expect the show to continue its success and potentially set new viewership records in the next few weeks.
