Taylor Sheridan’s 5/5 Neo-Western Crime Thriller (That’s Getting a Sequel) Lands on New Streaming Home

The popular series Yellowstone and its related shows have established its creator as a major player in the entertainment industry. Though he’s recently found success on television, he’s also proven his talent in film, and one of his 2017 Western crime thrillers is now available on a new streaming platform.

The critically acclaimed crime thriller, Wind River, stars two familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe— and . Written and directed by Taylor Sheridan (who later worked with on Mayor of Kingstown), the film tells the story of a murdered woman and the FBI agent investigating her death. Set on the harsh, snow-covered Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming, here’s a look at what the movie is about…

Cory Lambert, a wildlife officer, discovers the body of an 18-year-old woman while working on a Native American reservation in Wyoming. After investigators determine the woman was sexually assaulted, FBI agent Jane Banner arrives to lead the investigation. Working with Lambert, who knows the area well, the two quickly realize they are facing danger as they try to uncover the truth about the young woman’s death.

Almost a Decade Later, a ‘Wind River’ Sequel Is Now in the Works

Taylor Sheridan’s Wind River is widely considered one of his strongest films, earning high praise from both critics and audiences. It boasts impressive scores of 87% and 90% on Rotten Tomatoes from those groups, respectively. Audiences have been particularly enthusiastic, with many giving it a perfect 5/5 rating. One viewer called Sheridan’s direction “sharp, raw, and unflinching,” while another praised the film as a “great crime movie” with a unique setting that was genuinely chilling. Many reviewers highlighted the strong performances from Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen, and described the film as a grim, suspenseful, and believable thriller set on a Native American reservation – one that shouldn’t be missed.

You can now watch Wind River on streaming services: it’s available in the UK, along with the film Sicario: Day of the Soldado, and is streaming on Netflix in the US.

A sequel to the film Wind River is currently being developed, but Taylor Sheridan won’t be returning for this installment. Kari Skogland, known for directing The Punisher and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, will direct, with a script by Patrick Massett and John Zinman. Martin Sensmeier will reprise his role as Chip Hanson and will be the main character in Wind River: The Next Chapter.

Joining the film are Jason Clarke, Scott Eastwood, Chaske Spencer, Gil Birmingham, Alan Ruck, Kali Reis, and Tatanka Means. Although filming finished in 2023, a release date for Wind River: The Next Chapter hasn’t been announced yet.
