Avengers: Doomsday Directors Share Heartfelt Comments About Chris Evans’ Return

The initial trailer for Avengers: Doomsday surprised fans with the reappearance of Steve Rogers. Now that his return is confirmed, directors Anthony and Joe Russo have shared warm thoughts about Chris Evans.

What did the Russo Brothers say about Chris Evans in Avengers: Doomsday?

Chris Evans last played Captain America in Avengers: Endgame. While there was speculation he might reprise the role, it wasn’t officially confirmed. The recently released trailer now confirms Evans will be back in the next Avengers film.

The trailer doesn’t feature any dialogue from Rogers, but it does show him arriving at Peggy Carter’s home on a motorcycle. We see him looking at his Captain America suit, then holding a baby, followed by a title card announcing, “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday.”

After the trailer was released, the Russo Brothers shared it on Instagram, adding a message highlighting the significance of the character Steve Rogers.

The Russo Brothers reflected on a pivotal character and the story that united them, stating it was inevitable their journey would lead back to this point.

The Russo brothers launched their work with Marvel by directing Captain America: The Winter Soldier, starring Chris Evans as Captain America. They went on to direct Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

Okay, so as a huge Marvel fan, I’m seriously excited! The Russo brothers – the guys who directed some of my favorite Avengers movies – are coming back to helm Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Apparently, these films are going to be massive team-ups, bringing together heroes from all different eras of Marvel – we’re talking the classic X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and both old and new Avengers. And get this – Robert Downey Jr. is playing Doctor Doom! It sounds absolutely insane and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.

This is the first of what are expected to be four trailers released for the film. The next two trailers will likely focus on Thor and Doctor Doom, while the final trailer is anticipated to be a broader preview showcasing many characters.

Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18, 2026.
