So, I was really curious what happened to one of the main bad guys after the story in Avatar: Fire and Ash, and the new Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora game finally gave me the answer! It’s cool to finally know what became of them.
The latest installment in James Cameron’s wildly popular Avatar series is here, continuing to explore the fascinating world of Pandora. While it might not be the best film in the series, it remains a stunning visual experience, and it’s important to remember that these movies are part of a larger, interconnected story.
The world of Avatar is expanding beyond the films, with stories appearing in places like theme parks and video games. While fans eagerly await the planned Avatar 4 and 5 – currently aiming for release in 2029 and 2031 – these other projects are giving us a first look at what’s next.
The recently released Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora game, created by the team behind Assassin’s Creed, has revealed a significant detail that will impact the future Avatar movies. Be careful – major spoilers are ahead! If you haven’t seen Avatar: Fire and Ash or played Frontiers of Pandora, we recommend stopping here to avoid having the story ruined.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora DLC confirms fate of key villain
Near the end of Fire and Ash, Colonel Miles Quaritch and Jake Sully fight again. Shortly after, an injured Quaritch falls from their platform and vanishes into a strange energy field.
The movie doesn’t give a clear answer about Quaritch’s fate. We’re left wondering if his fall was fatal, or if he somehow survived. After all, in movies, characters aren’t really gone until we actually see them die. And Quaritch has a history of unexpectedly surviving dangerous situations, so it’s possible he lived.
Leaving the theater, you naturally expect Stephen Lang to be back in the next Avatar movie. His character’s story and ongoing conflict with the Sully family really need a satisfying conclusion, so it’s essential he appears in Avatar 4, and maybe even Avatar 5.
We even heard from Lang himself, who said, “You don’t see him die.”
It’s now official: Colonel Quaritch did survive his fall at the end of Avatar: Fire and Ash, as shown in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
Since its launch on December 7, 2023, Ubisoft has consistently updated and added to Frontiers of Pandora. Recently, after two years, the game received a major update, quickly followed by a brand new story expansion.
As a big fan, I was so excited to play the ‘From the Ashes’ add-on! It lets you explore Pandora a few weeks after the events of the latest movie, ‘Fire and Ash’. It’s like getting a few extra hours with the world and characters after the main story ends, and it’s really cool to see what happens next.
Although the story unfolds in a different setting with new characters, it still echoes the events of the third film. However, the biggest surprise wasn’t revealed until after the game was finished, during the credits.
During the credits, we hear from Quaritch on the radio. He’s talking to Major Bukowski, a character from the game, and reports that several of Varang’s most dangerous fighters have been eliminated.
Quaritch notes that things aren’t going well, and orders his character to come back so they can regroup and figure out their next move.

QUARITCH CREDITS CAMEO— M🥷 from the ashes era (@XOLEKYZ) December 20, 2025
Since the game follows the story of Fire and Ash, it confirms that Quaritch lives. He’s recovering from his recent loss, but remains loyal to Varang and her group.
It’s hard to say what will happen next, and we probably won’t see anything more from Quaritch until the release of Avatar 4 in 2029, unless the film is delayed.
