The start of Peacemaker season 2 changed the ending of season one to align better with the new DC Universe. Instead of the Justice League, we now see the Justice Gang from James Gunn’s Superman movie. But with the recent trailer for Supergirl, the appearance of one particular hero in Peacemaker now makes a lot more sense.
Now that the first trailer for Supergirl is out, we’re learning more about Kara Zor-El and her role as one of Earth’s Kryptonians. This makes a plot point from season 2 of Peacemaker – involving the Justice League – much easier to understand, thanks to a recent reveal.
Peacemaker Season 2 Swapped The Justice League For The Justice Gang (Including Supergirl)
Okay, so I was catching up on Peacemaker season 2, and they did a really interesting thing with the flashbacks to season one. Remember how the first season had cameos from the old Justice League – Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash, all from Zack Snyder’s movies? Well, they’ve completely swapped those out! Now, when they show the Justice League, it’s the new version – Guy Gardner as Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific. It’s like they’re really making a clean break with the old DCEU and establishing the DCU properly.
The Justice Gang arrived after Peacemaker had already finished the fight. They were joined by David Corenswet as Superman, and a surprising second appearance by Supergirl (Kara Zor-El), giving fans another glimpse of her before her movie comes out in 2026.
However, Supergirl appearing with Superman in season 2 of Peacemaker was a bit surprising. Her initial appearance at the end of Superman suggested she wasn’t focused on protecting Earth in the same way as her cousin.
At the end of the Superman movie, Kara arrives intoxicated to collect Krypto, and Superman reveals she often spends her time partying on alien planets with red suns – something the Supergirl trailer also suggests. Because of this, some viewers felt it was too early to include her in a team like the Justice League.
The latest trailer for the 2026 film Supergirl reveals more about Kara Zor-El and confirms her role as a superhero within the DC Universe before the movie’s release.
Supergirl’s New Trailer Confirms Her Official Hero Status on Earth
The initial trailer for Supergirl quickly explains what she’s been up to in the DC Universe. It shows she does enjoy escaping to planets with red suns for fun, but it also confirms she’s been quietly working as a hero on Earth, though not as prominently as her more famous cousin.
Early in the trailer, a brief newspaper headline shows Kara has been saving lives – specifically, rescuing cats. This small detail confirms she’s still doing some heroic work, but it’s clearly much less than Superman, who gets all the major headlines – just like in the original comics.
Now that we have this new information, it’s clearer why Kara showed up with Peacemaker’s team – it changes how we look at that moment. She’s already known as a hero in the DC Universe, though not as famous as Superman. It will be really interesting to see when and how she fully steps into her role as a superhero in her upcoming movie.
Supergirl releases June 26th, 2026 from DC Studios.
