Emily in Paris Season-Finale Recap: Sink to the Bottom With You

The episode titles are just awful – seriously, “Veni, Vidi, Venezia”? It feels like a chatbot came up with them! It’s ironic that with Venice literally sinking, no one seems to be using that as a central theme. And once again, Emily and Mindy’s fun is dampened by being stuck on a double date – they’re always on double dates, and I’m honestly hoping for a breakup soon! Emily’s fashion sense is on point, as usual – it’s cute without being over the top, and I appreciate her choice of flats and polka dots. Mindy’s outfit, though? It just doesn’t work. Butter yellow with a bubble hem? Definitely not a good look!

Whenever Emily is asked about herself, she immediately starts talking about Marcello. She’s incredibly proud of him and overjoyed to be in Venice with him. She can’t even imagine what her life was like just three months ago before she met him, and honestly, she finds the thought uninteresting and unbelievable!

Sylvie hasn’t arrived in Venice yet; she’s currently in Rome for the funeral of Princess Jane’s husband. Honestly, everyone’s outfits are amazing! Princess Jane’s look was particularly unforgettable – a revealing dress, fishnet veil, and bright purple eyeshadow – iconic! I wish we were celebrating with her instead of focusing on these boring men. The sponsored content on the coffin was a highlight! Princess Jane is worried about being left with a lot of debt. Sylvie confesses she invested in Marcello’s collection and really needs it to succeed, as Laurent mismanaged their finances.

It’s baffling why everyone at the St. Regis can afford to be there! Honestly, a little common sense could prevent a lot of the drama. Meanwhile, Emily’s looking for her passport and finds an engagement ring, which made me react strongly – seriously, what is going on?! Mindy is thrilled, but I just can’t deal with these characters’ choices. In the real world, if your best friend was about to marry someone who had lied to her for months, sabotaged her career, and then reappeared only to prioritize his own work, you’d never support the engagement! Emily says it “feels right” and that they’re a “team,” but doing everything for someone while they do nothing for you isn’t a team – it’s one-sided!

Emily chooses a red lace bodysuit, hoping for a proposal – it’s a look that feels more suited to Mindy, honestly. (Is this a hint of what’s to come, or just a fashion misstep?) Her hair accessory is a nice touch, though. Turns out it’s all a setup; Marcello is just showering Emily with compliments, telling her she inspires him. We get it, but what has he actually done for her?

The next day brought an unexpected problem at the event space – a flood! It seems no one predicted this, even considering Venice is known for sinking. Apparently, a full moon caused the flooding, which I secretly loved – the idea of nature disrupting everything is fantastic. Emily belatedly realized this was probably why the venue was available so last-minute. Nico suggested they might have to cancel, and Emily’s immediate concern was how Marcello would feel, which honestly, was the wrong priority. Marcello tends to fall apart during crises. Luckily, Emily and her team saved the day by quickly buying a ton of colorful rain boots and umbrellas for all the models and guests.

I wasn’t impressed with Marcello’s collection – it felt like a brightly colored, *Ace Venturastyle suit, and honestly, it looked bad. However, Emily really needed a success, and the show delivered. Despite the models walking on a wet runway, everyone seemed to enjoy it. (Though, it makes you wonder how dirty that water got!) Antonia showed up to support her son, praising his work and announcing she’s handing over the family business to him. Honestly, Marcello’s outfit was a real misstep – that seafoam green shirt was a questionable choice. Luckily, the lawsuit is over, but so is the Marcello Muratori line. It makes you wonder if his so-called dream, which Emily upended her life for, was just a passing fancy for a privileged son who won’t face any real repercussions for his choices!

He’s still trying to convince Emily to uproot her life for his work – to move to Solitano (which is now crowded with tourists and not the peaceful place it used to be), live in his family’s old house (which means being constantly around his mother, Antonia!), and work in marketing for his company. Meanwhile, Sylvie is discovering she’s responsible for her husband’s debts, even if she divorces him. I really wish she’d asked me for advice beforehand! She might have to sell her business, so she’s pushing Emily to join Muratori, hoping to shield her from her own difficult situation. Telling Emily she could become the next Miuccia Prada seems like a huge exaggeration, but Emily doesn’t seem to notice anything is off.

Alfie called Mindy, eager to see her when she returned to Paris. She initially tried to avoid the conversation, but he kept at it. I admire him for wanting to talk to her directly – so many guys would have just sent a text!

The following day, Mindy and Emily found themselves on another double date, this time on a gondola. The guys’ attempt at a compliment – “You two make us the men we are” – felt incredibly underwhelming. I’m frustrated that both Mindy and Emily are constantly reduced to supporting roles for the men. Is this supposed to be a romantic storyline? Marcello dramatically knelt to retrieve a ring, but Emily surprisingly announced she couldn’t marry him. It turned out he was actually proposing to Nico! Despite all his flaws – including not being able to pay his share of the rent – Mindy said yes to his proposal, and I suspect it’s just to get a rise out of me for being so critical of the show.

Emily is deeply embarrassed and keeps apologizing, but it’s clear their relationship is over. It’s good to see her finally recognize Marcello’s flaws – he becomes cruel and unpleasant when he doesn’t get his way, and he wouldn’t make a good long-term partner. He also doesn’t appreciate the life she’s built for herself. They share a final kiss, which likely means Emily will lose her position with Muratori. The team at Agence Grateau really needs to learn not to mix their professional and personal lives – perhaps they’ll figure that out next season!

Mindy’s back in Paris, and sporting a questionable outfit—a dress seemingly made of denim belts. Meanwhile, the women are excitedly planning the wedding and bachelorette party, conveniently ignoring some serious problems. Alfie arrives with news that Gabriel’s been replaced by a female chef, which is interesting. Instead of having a mature conversation, Mindy childishly shows off her engagement ring. It feels like the show is rushing through plot points without letting characters properly address things—didn’t Mindy and Alfie already have some real talks about their relationship? Alfie is the only one brave enough to tell Mindy he thinks she’s making a mistake, and it’s good he did! After he leaves, she confesses to Emily that she still has feelings for him. Seriously, just don’t get engaged! Be single and actually date for a while.

The show seems to realize I’m losing energy and motivation, so they’ve given me a boost with two great additions: Emily, looking fantastic in a bold red suit as she returns to the office, and Princess Jane, who brings a much-needed spark to the series. Welcome to the team, Jane! It turns out she inherited a palace from her husband and received a wonderful job offer from the Four Seasons. It’s refreshing to have someone I genuinely enjoy working with again.

Gabriel, being incredibly generous, is sending his staff on a trip to Greece. Meanwhile, Sylvie, who’s stuck in a difficult marriage and isn’t a fan of traditional relationships, casually lets Gabriel know Emily is now single and in Paris. It seems like she wants Emily to be free to do her own thing. But Gabriel, instead of letting Emily live her life, sends her a postcard asking her to join him in Greece. I’m not thrilled with this development in their relationship, but I’m anticipating a fun, chaotic start to season six – think Mamma Mia! vibes.

What did everyone think of this season’s travels? I felt like leaving Paris refreshed the characters. I really hope we see more women breaking free from disappointing relationships, both in the show and in real life. I’m still a big fan of Sylvie, and for now, that’s all – thanks, and see you next time!
