Please be aware that the following discussion reveals key plot points from Season 1, Episode 4 of Spartacus: House of Ashur, titled “Blood and Bone.” Spoilers ahead!
After just three episodes, Spartacus: House of Ashur has successfully refreshed the franchise. The new series is clearly different from the original, but still captures the spirit of the 2010 Spartacus show that fans enjoyed. Episode 4, “Blood and Bone,” really emphasizes this, demonstrating that this version of Ashur is a completely new and even more calculating character than he was before, free from Batiatus’ control.
The latest episode of Spartacus: House of Ashur, now available on the Starz app, was packed with surprising twists, including a passionate kiss and a particularly brutal battle. The fight came as a complete shock and ultimately benefited Ashur.
Achillia Finally Finds Her Footing After a Rough Start

Starz
Achillia, also known as Tenika Davis, has had a very difficult time fitting in at the House of Ashur. From the moment she arrived, she’s faced constant setbacks, both in her physical training and emotionally. She consistently pushes herself, but always seems to end up defeated and injured. Being branded with the mark of the Brotherhood without completing the trial has further alienated her from the other gladiators and made her a bigger target.
In Episode 4, the gladiator Achillia starts to gain confidence after a conversation with Celadus (Dan Hamill). He advises her to see her upcoming opponents, The Brothers Ferox, as a single, coordinated team rather than three individual fighters. This is different from her current training partners, including Celadus’s son, Tarchon (Jordi Webber), so Celadus offers her strategies to overcome the Ferox brothers. After a tough training session, Achillia wins, thanks to Celadus’s guidance, but this success creates tension between Celadus and Tarchon.
Korris and Opiter Sitting in a Tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G

The tension between Korris (Graham McTavish) and Opiter (Arlo Gibson) heats up even more in Episode 4, “Blood and Bone.” Following an injury Korris suffered due to Cossutia’s plot, the episode features another intimate scene between Ashur’s Doctore and the lanista – this time in a bathhouse. When Opiter learns about Korris’s injury, he rushes to the House of Ashur to check on him.
Though Opiter’s arrival was a surprise, Ashur gladly welcomes him, understanding Opiter has influence with Senator Gabinius and control over the upcoming games – something Ashur has been working towards. Ashur then heads to the market, leaving Opiter and Korris alone together. After a little flirting from Opiter, Korris responds with a passionate kiss. It was a welcome change to see actor McTavish play a romantic role, and he even shared with MovieWeb that it was one of his favorite scenes to film.
One of the most rewarding parts of working on the show was getting to delve into a character’s hidden depths. It’s something I hadn’t really been able to do in my previous acting roles.
Ashur Finally Gets What He Wants After a Bloody Battle
In the fourth episode of Spartacus: House of Ashur, Ashur (Nick E. Tarabay) is thrilled to hear that Crassus, a powerful ally, is planning a visit, despite ongoing conflicts with Pompey and Cilician pirates. However, his excitement fades when he discovers Crassus won’t be arriving immediately – only his luggage will, and Ashur is responsible for its safe delivery. Accompanied by Korris, he sets out to handle this task, leading to the show’s first truly violent scene.
Coincidentally, Cossuita (Claudia Black), her daughter Viridia (India Shaw-Smith), and their friend Horatia (Lisa Chappell) are shopping nearby for beautiful Egyptian fabrics. Suddenly, Horatia is attacked by the Cilician pirates, and mother and daughter are separated in the chaos. Korris pursues Cossuita, while Ashur comes to Viridia’s aid. After a long and fierce fight, the lanista and his assistant defeat the pirates decisively and violently.
Senator Gabinius fulfilled Ashur’s request as a reward for his help: a place in the upcoming Ludi Apollinares games. This meant Ashur no longer needed Opiter, a situation that would likely create future difficulties. However, Ashur’s excitement quickly faded when he discovered that Gaius Julius Caesar was visiting, not Crassus as he’d expected.
Caesar and his wife, Cornelia, are arriving next week, and their presence is likely to cause problems. Everyone is wondering how Caesar will react to Ashur’s plan to have a woman compete as his champion, and how the people of Capua will respond. It’s unclear if this move will work in Ashur’s favor, or if it will fail spectacularly when she faces The Brothers Ferox in the arena. We’ll find out on December 26th, but you can watch Episode 4 of Spartacus: House of Ashur, titled “Blood and Bone,” on the Starz app right now.
