‘Walking Dead’ Fans Get Last Minute Netflix Surprise To Help Them Ring in the New Year

Fans of The Walking Dead were upset when the initial December release schedule for Netflix didn’t include Season 2 of Dead City. After waiting since June, many thought they’d have to wait until next year. But in a welcome surprise, Netflix has announced that the new season will actually be available much sooner, just in time for the holidays!

According to What’s on Netflix, Season 2 of The Walking Dead: Dead City will be available on Netflix in the U.S. on December 31, 2025. All eight episodes will be released at the same time, letting fans start the new year with plenty of zombie action and drama between Maggie and Negan – and there’s going to be a lot of it! Plus, Kim Coates, a fantastic actor, will be playing what many consider to be one of the best villains in the entire series.

Premiering in 2023, The Walking Dead: Dead City is the fifth installment in The Walking Dead universe, which originally began in 2010. However, it’s unique as the first direct continuation of the main series’ storyline. The show centers on Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they venture into a deserted and isolated Manhattan to find Maggie’s son, Hershel, who has been taken. AMC was clearly confident in the show’s success, renewing it for a second season just weeks after the first season aired. It has since been renewed for a third season, slated to arrive in 2026. Here’s what the show is about:

Maggie and Negan venture into the ruins of Manhattan, a city abandoned after the apocalypse and isolated from the rest of the country. They find it overrun with walkers and a community of people who’ve built a dangerous, chaotic, yet strangely beautiful world within the crumbling cityscape.

‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ Season 2 Cranks Up the Tension

AMC

The already intense relationship between Maggie and Negan in Season 1 of The Walking Dead: Dead City is about to get even more complicated. Season 2 amplifies their emotional conflict, putting them at odds once again as a battle for control of Manhattan escalates. While they were forced to work together in the first season, they’re now firmly on opposite sides.

However, Season 2 of Dead City still has a few surprises in store for the characters, so expect some unexpected developments. We won’t give anything away for new viewers, but by the end of the season, the relationship and situation for these unlikely allies will be very different.

Look for all eight episodes of The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 to hit Netflix on Dec. 31, 2025.
