League Of Legends In Line For Major Overhaul – Here Are All Of The Changes So Far

League of Legends is getting a significant update after 2026, potentially the largest in its 16-year lifespan. Riot Games plans to revamp the game with a completely new interface, updated graphics for the main map (Summoner’s Rift), and improvements to help new players get started. More changes are also planned for the future.

Bloomberg first reported that Riot Games is planning a major update to League of Legends in 2027, referring to it internally as “League Next.” Riot Games quickly confirmed these plans with a video on League of Legends’ social media. Andrei Van Roon, who leads the League of Legends team, explained that they had originally intended to release the video in January, but moved up the date after the Bloomberg report became public.

Riot Games is making significant updates to League of Legends, but hasn’t shared everything publicly yet. A major change is a completely new client that combines everything into one application. They’re also revamping Summoner’s Rift with updated visuals and new gameplay elements. Other improvements include adjustments to runes, a redesigned pre-game experience, and a fresh learning system for new players.

So, I was reading a report from Bloomberg, and it sounds like League of Legends, while still super popular, is seeing a bit of a dip in players. Apparently, Riot’s other game, Valorant, is actually bringing in more money for them right now. It seems like this big update they’re planning is really about attracting new players – they even said in a video that after the update, it’ll be the perfect time to get your friends to start playing! I’m excited to see if it works.

As a huge League of Legends fan, it’s been awesome seeing Riot expand the world beyond just the main game! They’ve been trying out so many cool things lately, like the new card game, Riftbound, and the fighting game, 2XKO. Of course, Arcane on Netflix was a massive hit, and it’s not just spin-offs – they’re even changing up League itself! They’ve made big updates to Summoner’s Rift, added new jungle monsters, and are constantly refreshing things with cool seasonal themes. It feels like they’re really listening to us and aren’t afraid to try new ideas, which is fantastic.

So, Riot’s planning on giving us the full details about the big changes they’re working on sometime later next year, after MSI but before Worlds. I’m hyped to finally see what they’ve been cooking up!
