There’s One Thing About Liam Neeson’s New Action Movie That Makes My Blood Boil

Liam Neeson is back with another action film, and this one isn’t as good as his recent comedy, a reboot of *The Naked Gun*. *Ice Road: Vengeance* is a sequel to a surprisingly enjoyable 2021 thriller, but I wish I hadn’t bothered watching it. I enjoyed the first movie and had hoped this one would be fun, but I was disappointed after streaming it on Netflix.

I have a lot of issues with the movie *Ice Road: Vengeance*, particularly its story about a trucker driving to Mount Everest to scatter his brother’s ashes. But one thing about it really frustrates me, and I want to tell you what it is.

Ice Road: Vengeance Constantly Cuts Away From The Action, Especially During The Numerous Deaths

I went into *Ice Road: Vengeance* expecting a fairly mild action movie, given its PG-13 rating. I didn’t anticipate intense violence or disturbing scenes. However, the film repeatedly cuts away just *before* any impactful moment – before a character gets shot, stabbed, or falls off a cliff in the Himalayas. It avoids showing the actual violence.

I could follow what happened to key characters and even minor ones, but the movie often cut away from exciting action scenes instead of showing them. It felt unnecessary-*Heads of State* achieved a similar PG-13 rating while still delivering more impactful action, so it’s unclear why this film didn’t do the same.

The Fates Of Certain Characters Were Left Up In The Air Way Too Much

This movie features a high number of deaths, but most of them aren’t actually shown on screen. The camera often cuts away before the moment of impact, and in some cases, it’s unclear if characters even died – I honestly kept expecting some of them to reappear later, and sometimes they do!

It’s a common movie cliché for a character you thought was gone to reappear and rescue everyone. But that doesn’t happen in this story; those characters get a decent resolution shortly after their apparent defeat.

I Really Dug The First Ice Road Movie, But It Was Hard To See This One Through

While some of my coworkers weren’t fans of *The Ice Road* when it came out in 2021 (TopMob rated it 2 out of 5 stars), I actually enjoyed it, especially the connection between Liam Neeson and Amber Midthunder. After the first movie ended, I wasn’t clamoring for a sequel, but I thought it would be entertaining to see Liam Neeson reprise his role as Mike McCann. Unfortunately, after watching *Ice Road: Vengeance*, I don’t feel that way anymore.

This sequel was really tough to watch, and not just because it frequently interrupted exciting moments. I kept hoping it would get better, but there’s a limit to how much I could endure.

Stream Ice Road: Vengeance on Netflix.
