The Elder Scrolls series appears destined to continue indefinitely, as Bethesda has a seemingly endless supply of ideas for new games. Currently, the development of The Elder Scrolls 6 is proving to be a lengthy process.
Bethesda hasn’t officially announced the release date for the game. However, a recent leak from Kiwi Talkz on X, reportedly based on information from within the company, suggests we may now have a clearer idea of when this massive role-playing game will be available.
The Elder Scrolls 6 May Not Land Till 2028 At The Earliest
Or Even 2029

So, I’ve been following the leaks, and it’s looking like The Elder Scrolls 6 might not drop until 2028 at the very earliest, but most likely around 2029. Apparently, the devs aren’t even hinting at a release window because they learned their lesson from announcing it too soon – they think giving us a rough date right now would just end up causing more frustration and disappointment. They’re playing it super safe, which, honestly, is probably a good thing.
Kiwi Talkz predicts this game will have a similar journey to Metroid Prime 4 – it’ll probably come out eventually, but won’t be a massive, instant success. This seems likely, as many popular games today are surprises that gain traction through positive buzz. For example, The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced in 2018, but Elden Ring – which came as more of a surprise – was revealed just a year later and released within three years.
A 2028 release date feels realistic, and even a delay to 2029 wouldn’t be surprising. Given the game’s ambitious scale and the development team’s other major projects, it’s understandable they’re taking their time. Most people, including those at Bethesda, probably agree the game was announced prematurely.
Whatever Happens, We’re In For A Wait
2029 Is Far Away
Even if development goes perfectly – which isn’t always the case with Bethesda games – the earliest we can expect this game is 2028, but 2029 or even later is more likely. Given the potential for further delays, it might end up being released on the next generation of consoles. Be prepared for a long wait!
I’m revisiting The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind while I wait for new games. I still think it’s the best in the series, mainly because of how detailed and customizable it is compared to newer games. Honestly, I’d rather see a complete remake of Morrowind than another mainline Elder Scrolls game at this point.
Look, as soon as The Elder Scrolls 6 drops, I’m playing it. I can’t wait to get lost in Tamriel again! It has the potential to be amazing, but honestly, with how good the previous games have been, everyone’s going to be watching it very closely, and it’s going to have to be something special to please the fans.
