After a lot of complaints from players, Bungie is now letting everyone earn a previously paid-for armor set in Destiny 2 for free.
The Iron Majesty armor, designed around the popular Iron Banner player-versus-player event in Destiny 2, was initially planned to be sold only with Silver, the game’s premium currency, through the Eververse store.
Iron Banner was available again on September 16th, after being unavailable for a long time – even before the release of The Edge of Fate. Players could earn a unique set of armor that was updated from a previous season.
Honestly, a lot of players are upset because the new armor sets, which were designed around this cool in-game event, were locked behind a paywall – you had to spend real money to get them. It feels bad because Iron Banner, this big PvP event, just got a slightly tweaked version of stuff we already had. It feels like they prioritized making money over rewarding players for actually *playing* the event.
Bungie replaces recycled Iron Banner armor
On September 16th, Bungie announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Iron Banner armor sets had been changed to show the Iron Majesty appearance. The original Iron Beryllium look will be added back in a future update.
We’ve been listening to your thoughts on the current Iron Banner armor and how rewarding it feels to earn unique items in the game. We agree that the balance between items you can buy and those you earn through gameplay isn’t quite right this season, and we’re planning to make some changes to how we handle earned rewards going forward…

So, Bungie actually came out and said things weren’t quite right with how powerful earned and paid armor looks this season. They’re planning to rethink how we get rewards in the future to make things feel more balanced. Basically, they messed up a bit with the cosmetics and are working on fixing it!
Buying cosmetics in Destiny 2’s Eververse store doesn’t give players an advantage in the game – it’s not ‘pay-to-win’. The frustration comes from players seeing a constant stream of unique and attractive cosmetic items for sale, while the armor they earn through gameplay is often just modified versions of existing designs and doesn’t look as special.
Destiny 2 is currently facing challenges, especially with player frustration over recent changes to how characters progress. Hopefully, this move will show players that Bungie is paying attention to their concerns and willing to make improvements.
