Fans are wondering who will portray Kratos in the upcoming live-action God of War series on Amazon, but it seems Christopher Judge won’t be taking on the role, despite many hoping he would.
The popular God of War series on PlayStation has changed dramatically since 2018. The games moved away from the fast-paced, action-focused combat it was known for, and now tell a more detailed story experienced from a new camera angle.
The successful reboot of the God of War series paved the way for its highly praised sequel, God of War: Ragnarok. In 2022, Amazon and Sony announced they were creating a live-action TV show for Prime Video, and Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on For All Mankind, was later brought on to lead the project.
We know it’ll focus on Kratos and Atreus, so the question is: who will play the God of War himself?
Christopher Judge dismisses live-action God of War rumor
John Campea reports that ten actors are being considered for the role of Kratos in Amazon’s upcoming God of War TV show.
- Christopher Judge
- Winston Duke
- Joe Manganiello
- Manu Bennet
- Jason Momoa
- Travis Fimmel
- Oliver Ritchers
- Dave Bautista
- Henry Cavill
- Triple H
Christopher Judge, age 60, originally voiced Kratos in the 2018 God of War game, replacing Terrence C. Carson, and returned for the role in Ragnarok. Fans immediately wanted him for the upcoming TV show, but a recent post suggests he won’t be appearing as Kratos in live-action.
When a fan shared a report suggesting Judge was being considered to play Kratos, Judge responded with a confused message – simply, “I am???” – along with three confused emojis and a heart.
I am??? 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️❤️

Judge has playfully acknowledged the possibility of taking on the role for the past two years. In December 2024, when fans suggested him for the part online, he enthusiastically responded with “FINALLY” and a laughing emoji.
In August 2023, he responded to a comment suggesting he might be too old for the part by using laughing emojis. Earlier in the year, he also posted, “I think @DaveBautista is great, but…”
According to Nexus Point News, filming for the series is scheduled to start in March 2026. Speaking with IGN at San Diego Comic-Con, Moore shared that they are currently writing the scripts and making good progress.
I’m really enjoying working with this team. It’s been a captivating challenge to learn this video game’s story. I’ve never adapted a game before, and the more I explored it, the more I appreciated how rich and detailed its world and lore are.
