With the fourth season of the MGM+ sci-fi mystery series FROM expected to premiere around early-to-mid 2026, viewers are still intensely focused on the mysterious Man in Yellow (Douglas E. Hughes). He’s just one of many unanswered questions the show has presented. It’s somewhat amusing that the series stars Harold Perrineau, who famously appeared in Lost – a show also known for its perplexing and unresolved mysteries.
The show FROM needs to start providing clear answers to its many mysteries, like the history of the strange town where it takes place, or it risks losing viewers – just like Lost did twenty years ago. As Season 4 approaches, it’s important to remember the biggest unanswered questions and whether they’ll ever be resolved.
‘From’s’ Cryptic Premise, Explained

Epix/MGM+
Created by John Griffin, FROM is a science fiction mystery series that first aired on Epix in 2022 and later moved to MGM+ in 2023. The show takes place in a seemingly normal, small American town, but anyone who enters finds themselves unable to leave. This is just the first of many strange and unsettling mysteries that unfold throughout the series.
The story follows Boyd Stevens (Perrineau), a veteran who essentially becomes the mayor – and sheriff – of a strange town. The biggest initial mystery arises when Boyd shoots his wife, Abby (Lisa Ryder). Abby had come to believe the town wasn’t real and started shooting at the residents, convinced they were dangerous.
As a critic, I have to say, the moment Boyd killed Abby to protect his son, Ellis (Corteon Moore), really threw everything into chaos – and honestly, we’re still dealing with the fallout three seasons later. The big fan theory, and one that made a lot of sense to me, is that the Township itself is some kind of symbolic purgatory. A place between life and death where people have to suffer to atone for their sins. But, and this is typical, the writers of this hit show, much like they did with Lost, have cleverly avoided giving us a straight answer, instead choosing to muddy the waters and keep us guessing.
Major Questions Still Loom About the Township in ‘From’

Epix/MGM+
As the show FROM heads into its fourth season, big questions remain. The central mystery revolves around the origins of the unsettling town and why people can’t escape. Is the town stuck in a time loop? Is it a shared dream? A strange experiment? Or something else entirely, like a place between life and death? After three seasons, viewers are still searching for answers.
The town is plagued by violent monsters that come out at night, and no one knows where they came from. These creatures attack the people of the town, causing a lot of pain and fear. During the day, they look like regular people from the 1950s, but at night they transform into terrifying, grinning ghouls with sharp teeth and claws. Adding to the danger is the Music Box Monster, a shapeless being that invades dreams and uses music to draw people in, trapping them.
Okay, so the biggest problem with this movie is that it doesn’t really explain why any of this is happening, and I’m still left with a lot of questions. The town itself feels really creepy, though – it’s full of glowing worms, these unsettling crows that feel like they mean something, and just all sorts of weird creatures that add to the overall mystery. And then there’s Martin, this vampire played by Robert Verlaque, who seems to be connected to the worms somehow, but we never really get the full story on that connection.
A strange lighthouse stands in the town’s forest, far from any ocean or lake. Its origins and purpose are a mystery, and it seems connected to the unsettling hallucinations experienced by the characters. While some speculate it powers the town, others believe it might be a way out. Like the show Lost before it, FROM presents more puzzles than solutions, leaving viewers with many unanswered questions about the lighthouse and everything else.
Substantial Character Questions Yet to Be Addressed in ‘From’

Epix/MGM+
The town of FROM is full of mysteries, but the people living there are even more puzzling. One family, Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno), her husband Jim (Eion Bailey), and their son Ethan (Simon Webster), arrive in town while grieving the loss of their first child, Thomas. Jim starts working with Jade Herrera (David Alpay), a wealthy software engineer who also arrives that day, hoping to find a way out of this strange place.
The season 3 finale revealed surprising news about Tabitha and Jade: they aren’t who everyone thought they were. Both are reincarnations of people who lived before. We learn Tabitha is the reincarnation of Miranda Kavanuagh, a mother who died while traveling to the lighthouse. Jade, meanwhile, is the reincarnation of Christopher, a man who was stuck in town alongside Miranda’s son, Victor (Scott McCord). Victor himself has been mysteriously trapped in the town since childhood, and this connection is likely to be a key focus in season 4.
If this all seems complicated—like a tangled storyline from the show Lost—it actually gets even more confusing. There’s also a strange figure called the Boy in White (played by Vox Smith) who appears as a hallucination to some people and seems to be helping Boyd and Victor find their way to safety. We don’t know where the Boy in White comes from or what he wants, but he might be the opposite of The Man in Yellow (Douglas E. Hughes), who becomes the primary villain in Season 3.
Season 4 needs to explain who the Boy in White and Man in Yellow are and what their intentions are – are they controlling or protecting the town? The show has a habit of ending each season with confusing mysteries instead of clear answers, and it’s in danger of losing viewers if it doesn’t start providing some resolution.
The show is captivating at first, but its many unresolved plot lines need to be wrapped up to make the story feel complete. If the show gets another season, the writers need to clearly show how events connect and reward viewers who have stuck with it. Otherwise, it risks fading away and becoming frustratingly incomplete, like the infamous smoke monster from Lost.
