Ubisoft now owns the game March of Giants, having acquired it from Amazon Games. Along with the game, Xavier Marquis—who originally led creative direction on Rainbow Six Siege—has rejoined Ubisoft. Alex Parizeau, formerly the head of Ubisoft Toronto, is also returning with him.
March of Giants is a free-to-play online multiplayer game where two teams of four players battle it out. It’s a MOBA – a multiplayer online battle arena – with a unique twist: it’s inspired by the technology of the early 1900s and blends real-time strategy with classic lane combat. Players control massive giants who lead their troops into battle, which is where the game gets its name!
Marquis said in a news release that, “Returning to Ubisoft brings things full circle.”
We’re proud of the progress we’ve made on this project, and we’re thrilled to keep building ‘March of Giants’ with the support of Ubisoft. We believe Ubisoft has the resources to help us really make this game something special.
Parizeau expressed gratitude to Amazon for their support of March of Giants and shared his enthusiasm about returning to Ubisoft to develop the game into a long-lasting and popular MOBA.
March of Giants has been tested with players on Steam, but the developers haven’t announced when the complete game will be available. It’s also currently unknown if it will be released on game consoles.
Following recent widespread layoffs at Amazon, including its gaming department, the company has sold March of Giants to Ubisoft. The details of the sale, such as the price, have not been made public.
