Ubisoft acquired Amazon’s studio and is now in charge of a promising game that „has a real opportunity to bring something fresh and dynamic”

Amazon recently announced that Ubisoft has purchased the Montreal development team working on the upcoming game, March of Giants. This means Ubisoft now owns the game and the whole team will be joining them. Interestingly, Xavier Marquis, who originally led the creative direction of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, is returning to Ubisoft after six years.

The details of the financial agreement haven’t been made public. However, March of Giants, which recently started early testing on PC, will still be developed by Ubisoft. Amazon will help promote the game on Twitch.

Along with Marquis, Alexandre Parizeau is also a crucial part of this project. He previously managed production for March of Giants and led Ubisoft Toronto as managing director.

Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, highlighted the value of bringing seasoned leaders back to the company. He believes that Marquis and Parizeau will contribute valuable experience in developing popular, ongoing games that appeal to players worldwide.

The March of Giants team will be joining a new internal group at Ubisoft as the company reshapes its studio structure.

According to Guillemot, March of Giants could be a game-changer for Ubisoft, offering a new and exciting experience that allows them to stand out in the competitive gaming landscape. He believes the team behind the game has the skills and vision to build a successful and innovative brand.

Marquis mentioned that coming back to Ubisoft is pretty meaningful for him:

It feels great to be back at Ubisoft – it’s where we created some of our best projects. We’re thrilled to continue working on March of Giants as part of the Ubisoft team. We believe this game has huge possibilities, and Ubisoft has the resources to help us make it truly exceptional.

Parizeau thanked Amazon for their early support and expressed optimism that, with Ubisoft’s assistance, March of Giants has the potential to become a very popular MOBA game.

Just weeks after announcing layoffs in its gaming division, Amazon sold Amazon Games Montreal. At the time of the sale, the studio was still developing a game called March of Giants. It’s currently unclear if the studio will remain operational under new ownership. VGC has contacted Amazon for more information.

So, Amazon’s Steve Boom, who’s in charge of all things audio, Twitch, and games, just put out a quick statement saying how proud he is of the team up in Montreal. It’s cool to see the people behind the scenes getting some recognition, you know? As a gamer, it’s always good to know things are being built by a team they value.

We believe the skilled developers in Montreal will continue to do great work and make fantastic games with Ubisoft’s support.
