Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creative force behind the popular Yakuza/Like A Dragon series, recently unveiled his new game, Gang of Dragon, at The Game Awards. It appears to share many similarities with Sega’s well-known gangster games.
The first trailer for Gang of Dragon is packed with action, including a street fight and a bar brawl, and seems to star South Korean actor Ma Dong-seok. Its style is very similar to the Yakuza/Like A Dragon games – fitting, since the title itself includes the word ‘dragon’! While the game is actively being developed, there’s no word yet on when it will be released.
Toshihiro Nagoshi spent three decades at Sega, where he became famous for creating the Yakuza (now known as Like A Dragon) series. He led Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the team behind the games, for many years before leaving Sega in 2021. In 2022, he started his own studio, Nagoshi Studio, which is backed by the Chinese company NetEase.
This year’s The Game Awards brought a lot of exciting news, including a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the announcement of Larian Studio’s next project, a new Divinity game. Plus, while Toshihiro Nagoshi is developing Gang of Dragon, the team at Ryu Ga Gotoku is also creating a new game called Stranger Than Heaven, which is similar in style to the Yakuza series.
