Next Star Wars RPG Returns To The Old Republic

During The Game Awards 2025, a stunning trailer revealed Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a new single-player role-playing game. Details are scarce, but we know it’s set in the same era as the classic Knights of the Old Republic games, and it looks very promising.

I’m really excited about this new game, Fate! It’s being made by Arcanaut Studios, and get this – Casey Hudson, the game director behind the original Knights of the Old Republic and the first three Mass Effect games, is leading the team. Everyone’s saying it’s a spiritual successor to KOTOR, which is awesome. I’m not sure if that means they’re going to retell part of the old story or finally give us the sequel we’ve always wanted, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed and we’ll just have to wait and see!

Hudson shared that working on the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a career highlight. He explained that Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will tell a brand new story, building on everything the team learned from the first game. The new adventure will focus on player choices, fate, and the classic battle between good and evil, and Hudson expressed his excitement about working with Lucasfilm Games again.

The new trailer suggests you’ll play as a character with Force abilities who wields a lightsaber, similar to the original KOTOR games. We also get a good look at your ship, which will probably serve as a base of operations for you and your companions. While the trailer hints at who these companions might be, it doesn’t reveal their identities or if any are returning characters from the previous KOTOR games.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will be available on PC and the latest Xbox and PlayStation consoles, likely the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
