Okay, so I just got a first look at the upcoming thriller, The Gallerist, and it looks wild! It’s directed by Cathy Yan, and The LA Times is calling it an art-world satire. Apparently, it stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Jenna Ortega, and the story – according to the Sundance Film Festival where it’s premiering – is about a gallerist who’s really down on her luck and decides to try and sell a dead body at Art Basel Miami. Seriously! Sounds like a dark comedy, and I’m already intrigued.
The 2026 Sundance Film Festival is scheduled to take place from January 22nd to February 1st, 2026. The film The Gallerist is written by James Pedersen and produced by a team including Portman, Ash Sarohia, Sophie Mas, Jonathan King, Tom McCarthy, and Rae Baron. The movie stars Sterling K. Brown, Zach Galifianakis, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Daniel Brühl, Charli XCX, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The first image from the movie The Gallerist shows Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega peering around a corner, likely inside the art gallery where the story takes place. Portman’s character seems confident and in control, while Ortega’s appears anxious, suggesting Portman might be the protagonist trying to pull off a plan to rescue her business.
