It looked like a complete remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 from Obsidian Entertainment was being made, but a recent report suggests the project has been paused.
Recent legal documents, as reported by Game File, show that Aspyr and Lucasfilm Games were developing a complete remake of Knights of the Old Republic II (KOTOR 2). The project, internally known as “Juliet,” aimed to modernize the beloved 2004 RPG and was being worked on at the same time as the KOTOR remake, which Saber Interactive confirms is still in progress. However, unlike the KOTOR remake, development on KOTOR 2’s remake appears to have stopped as recently as March 2025. Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly stated in court testimony that if the remake had been completed, it would have included the downloadable content originally planned for the 2022 Nintendo Switch announcement.
According to Reilly, ‘Juliet’ was the internal name for a project to completely rebuild Knights of the Old Republic II. The idea was to update the game with modern graphics and gameplay for current systems, while still preserving the original story, characters, and content. They were exploring this possibility with Aspyr, and the project would have focused on remaking the content from the original release.
The Sith Lords Restored Content Modification (RCM) started as a fan-made mod that added missing story elements and an alternate ending to the game Knights of the Old Republic 2 (KOTOR 2). When Aspyr announced an official DLC based on this mod, they said it would include more conversations with your crew, a new mission featuring HK-47, and a revised ending. However, when KOTOR 2 was released on Nintendo Switch in June 2022, the DLC never became available. It seems Disney’s legal team prevented its release due to questions about who originally created the mod. Now, a full remake of KOTOR 2 is also reportedly cancelled.
