Warning: This article contains major spoilers for the first part of Stranger Things Season 5! If you haven’t finished watching, you should catch up on Netflix before reading on.
While watching the first four episodes of Stranger Things Season 5, I was struck by Holly’s outfit in the world connected to Mr. Whatsit (Vecna). Her blue dress, orange cape, and necklace were memorable, and I believe they’re significant. Let’s discuss these details and how they might be important as the season continues.

Holly’s Clothes In Mr. Whatsit’s World Seem To Be Replicating The Outfit Her Figurine Is Wearing
Ever since the first part of the show came out in 2025, and with the final parts scheduled for release on December 25th and 31st, I’ve been really captivated by the character Holly. I’m fascinated by the dreamlike world she inhabits, and I especially enjoy her scenes with Max. I also noticed something interesting about her clothing – it’s the exact same outfit the figurine Mike gives her in the first episode. You can see the resemblance by comparing the images below and at the top of this section.

While she was with Mr. Whatsit, Meg started assembling an outfit that closely matched the one worn by the figurine around her neck. I believe this shows she’s beginning to transform into Holly the Heroic. Considering what Mike told us about this hero earlier, I have an idea about how she’ll ultimately help them win.

Will Holly The Heroic Will Be The Hero Of Volume 2?
The significance of these clothes, I believe, comes from a touching moment between Mike and Holly. In the first episode, Mike—played by Finn Wolfhard—comforted his sister and shared how he finds courage. He told her about a figurine named “Holly the Heroic,” which helps him be brave, and gave her one just like it.
I think Mike’s description of Holly the Heroic will closely match what his sister actually does in Volume 2. Keeping that in mind, let’s examine the powers he says she has:
I was planning to wait a bit longer, but then I met her – she’s a cleric, so she has magical powers granted by the divine. She can cast protective spells against evil spirits, and even teleport anywhere you can imagine! Seriously, how does my old friend, Mr. Whatsit, compare to that?
So, Mike just made a big promise to protect Holly, and honestly, I believe him. It’s like we’re seeing a real transformation with her – she’s not just Holly anymore, she’s Holly the Heroic. It’s not just a nickname, either. Her whole look has changed, and more importantly, her actions in this strange new world prove she’s stepped into a much braver role.
So, how will she become a hero? Mike suggested she might have supernatural abilities, similar to Will’s newfound powers that have made him like a sorcerer. Perhaps she’ll be able to use special powers – almost like teleportation – to escape from Vecna’s world, and even wake Max from her coma. The title of Episode 6, “Escape From Camazotz,” also seems connected to Holly reading A Wrinkle in Time and referring to Vecna as Mr. Whatsit.
I really believe she’s essential to stopping Vecna. She’s well-placed to succeed, and as Holly the Heroic – with all her heroic gear like her dress, cape, and even a figurine – I think she can achieve anything.
