The James Bond film series, which started with Casino Royale in 1953, has been a major part of popular culture for over 60 years. The first film produced by Eon Productions, Dr. No, came out in 1962 and introduced audiences to the legendary spy, Agent 007, played by Sean Connery.

Since its beginning, the James Bond series has grown to include over two dozen films, plus a huge amount of related books, games, and merchandise. In over sixty years, six different actors have played James Bond, including Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, and, most recently, Daniel Craig.

David Niven played James Bond in the 1967 film Casino Royale. This movie was a comedic take on the original novel and wasn’t made by the company that produced most of the Bond films, Eon Productions. Along with another film from 1983, it’s one of only two Bond movies not created by Eon, so it’s often considered separate from the main Bond series.

What’s Next for the 007 Franchise?

Now that Amazon MGM Studios has purchased the James Bond franchise, fans are keen to learn what’s next. Luckily, there have been a few recent announcements suggesting the next James Bond will stay true to the spirit of previous films. While Amazon MGM now owns the series, the established producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, are working with the studio to ensure a smooth transition and maintain the character’s core identity.

In a statement released in February, Prime Video expressed their gratitude to the creators of James Bond – Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, who first brought the character to the big screen – as well as to Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, who continue to champion the beloved franchise and its global fanbase.

We still don’t know what the next James Bond movie will be about or who will play the iconic spy. However, it was announced in August that Denis Villeneuve will direct the next installment. As of now, there’s no word on who will take on the role of 007.

You can now watch all the James Bond movies for free on Pluto TV.
