The VTubing community is reacting strongly after TheBurntPeanut, who doesn’t identify as a VTuber, won VTuber of the Year at the 2025 Streamer Awards.
The Streamer Awards, hosted by QTCinderella, have finished for this year. Although IShowSpeed won the top prize as Streamer of the Year, another award is getting a lot of discussion.
The nominees for ‘Best VTuber’ featured popular creators like Ironmouse and Mori Calliope, as well as Kenji and chibidoki. But the final nominee was a surprise – TheBurntPeanut, a hugely successful streamer known for extraction shooter games, completed the list.
He perfectly matches the description. Instead of a real person appearing on camera, we see a computer-generated avatar. Most VTubers use an anime-inspired design, but Peanut is uniquely—and literally—a peanut brought to life in human form.
Peanut won both the major Arc Raiders competition and The Streamer Awards, but this victory has caused a lot of disagreement within the VTubing community.
TheBurntPeanut wins VTuber of the Year award
Fan votes play a big role in deciding the winners at The Streamer Awards. Peanut, who quickly became a popular personality this year, won their category thanks to overwhelming support from their dedicated fanbase, known as the ‘Bungulators’.
The announcement of the winner caused some upset within the VTubing community. Some people dismissed the entire awards show as a farce, and others specifically criticized the fact that someone who wasn’t a VTuber had won the award for Best VTuber.
Peanut has often said he doesn’t consider himself a typical VTuber, though he playfully jokes about it with his fans. Nevertheless, some people have reacted negatively to him winning an award.
A person who actively dislikes the label ‘VTuber’ ironically won VTuber of the Year. They apparently encouraged votes specifically to upset other VTubers, which is unbelievable.

Look, I think this other creator is genuinely funny and puts out good stuff, no question. But I was pretty bummed to see someone who doesn’t even see themselves as a VTuber win ‘Best VTuber’. It just felt a little off, you know? Like, we’re all working hard to build this community, and it’s weird when someone outside of it gets that recognition.
It really stinks when the things you care about, and the people who love them, aren’t respected or given a chance to be heard. It’s frustrating to feel like your community isn’t taken seriously at all.
VTuber icons defend TheBurntPeanut’s win
Despite a lot of criticism, many people actually supported Peanut. Especially popular VTubers, who quickly came to his defense after his recent victory.
“Peanut sweep, huge congrats,” fellow nominee Mori Calliope said on X.
Ironmouse, a popular VTuber who has won several awards, responded to the upset over Peanut’s win, saying she found it frustrating. She pointed out that everyone nominated in that category was deserving of the award.
I enjoy your content, Mousie, but I can’t support someone whose popularity relies on making fun of vtubers. It’s also upsetting that some people, like shroud, seem to be encouraging votes for you just to further mock the vtuber community.

As many people have noted online, ‘VTuber’ means ‘virtual tuber’ – referring to the virtual nature of these online personalities. One streamer commented that this particular creator is funny, engaging, and clearly has a dedicated fanbase.
