I’ve been eagerly anticipating Amazon’s God of War TV series ever since it was first announced. The show will explore the story that began with the 2018 God of War game, and it could become a fantastic adaptation for Amazon subscribers. However, some recent updates about the series have left me feeling both hopeful and slightly concerned.
Back in December 2025, Deadline announced that the new Prime Video series had been renewed for two seasons. This is exciting and allows for a lot of storytelling possibilities, but it also leaves me with some urgent questions. Here are a few things I’ve been thinking about since I heard the news about this adaptation of a franchise I really love.

Is The Show Going To Focus Solely On The 2018 Game, Or Will Ragnarok Play Into Things?
Now that the God of War show has been renewed for two seasons, I’m curious whether it will simply adapt the story from the 2018 game, or if it will also cover the events of 2022’s God of War: Ragnarok. Without giving away any spoilers for those who haven’t played the latest games, the 2018 game ends with a significant reveal that’s explored in much greater depth in the sequel.
It feels unlikely that the show would end with such a big cliffhanger and not continue the story in future seasons, but I have to ask about it. The series could be a great adaptation of the 2018 game, but the most important parts of Kratos and Atreus’s journey actually happen in Ragnarok.
This brings me to my next point…

On A Similar Note, Will This Just Be A Two-Season Series?
While Amazon could decide to extend the God of War series beyond the initial two seasons, it’s possible they might only produce those two. Honestly, it would be nice to see Amazon give the show’s creator, Ronald D. Moore, a clear ending point, allowing him to focus on telling a complete story about Kratos dealing with loss and finding redemption, and his son discovering a hidden truth.
I’m really eager to explore the worlds we’ve seen in the games – Midgard and beyond – and fully appreciate all the details. There’s a wealth of characters, side stories, and background information to discover. However, if the show only tells the story of Kratos in the Norse realms, I think two seasons would be an ideal length.

How Are They Possibly Going To Capture The Brutality Of That First Baldur Fight (And The Rest Of Them)?
Right at the beginning of God of War, Kratos and his son Atreus are attacked by a powerful, seemingly unbeatable enemy who turns out to be Baldur, one of Odin’s sons. The resulting battle, which interrupts their journey to spread his wife’s ashes, was one of the most thrilling and impactful fights I’ve ever experienced in a video game. When I learned Amazon was creating a show based on the game, my first thought was: how could they possibly recreate the scale and intensity of this incredible fight scene?
While this fight is incredibly impressive, it’s just the first of many challenging battles Kratos will have with Baldur and other Norse gods in this game and its follow-up. Though none quite match the impact of such a difficult boss fight so early on, each one is memorable in its own way. I’m excited, but also a little concerned, about how these spectacular and intense battles will look when adapted for a smaller screen. Still, I’m really looking forward to seeing them all play out.

There Are So Many Side Stories And So Much Lore. Will That Be Included Without The Show Feeling Overstuffed
The recent God of War games are packed with compelling stories – from Freya’s shift from friend to enemy, to the fascinating tale of Brok and Sindri’s weapon-making, Atreus’s journey of self-discovery, the events in Asgard, and the heartbreaking history of Mimir. While I’d love to include everything in the upcoming show, I’m concerned that trying to do so would make it feel too crowded and overwhelming.
These smaller storylines all connect to the main plot in different ways, and I’m concerned that cutting some of them might make the show’s important scenes feel incomplete. It’s a tricky balance – how much should we cater to fans without hurting the overall story? We’ll see if we can get it right.

Plus, I’m Afraid No One Is Going To Be Able To Top Christopher Judge’s Take On Kratos
I also read in Deadline that they’re starting to cast the new God of War TV show, and that got me thinking – who’s going to be Kratos? It’s a really tough role to fill! Christopher Judge did such an amazing job, especially taking over from Terrence C. Carson. His voice and performance capture really brought so much depth and feeling to the character, and I’m really curious to see if anyone can even come close to matching that in a live-action series. I’m excited, but also a little worried about how they’ll pull it off!
Many actors can handle the physical demands of the role, and others excel at the emotional aspects, but it’s difficult to find someone who combines both skills as effectively as the actor from Stargate SG-1.
I should probably just be thrilled that a God of War TV show is coming, but I’m stuck going back and forth between excitement and worry until I actually see it.
