Now that Showtime has renewed it, filming for season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection has a confirmed start date. Showtime, which is owned by Paramount, officially announced the renewal in early October, just a month after the first season ended. Unlike the previously canceled Dexter: Original Sin, season 2 of Resurrection is moving forward without any major delays.
Director Marcos Siega announced on Instagram on December 5th that filming for season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection will begin in April 2026. While rumors and hints from the series creator, Clyde Phillips, had circulated recently, Siega’s post officially confirms the start date.
The writers and creative team behind the upcoming season of Dexter: Resurrection are currently working on the scripts and story. A recent photo shared by Siega included returning writers like Clyde Phillips, Scott Reynolds, Scott Buck, Katrina Mathewson, Marc Muszynski, Alexandra Franklin, Nick Zayas, Kirsa Rein, and Tanner Bean.
The photo shows scripts and notes from season 2 scattered on a table and whiteboard, but any specific details like titles or dialogue have been hidden. Phillips has shared that the script for the first episode is finished, though the writing team isn’t expected to complete the entire season until March. Fortunately, filming should begin shortly after the writing is done.
Showrunner Clyde Phillips is building excitement for the next season of Dexter, hinting in a recent post that “Season 2 is so good!” and saying that starting filming in April 2026 “can’t come soon enough.” While he hasn’t revealed any plot details, comments on his post suggest that several key actors from the original series will be returning.
Kadia Saraf, who plays Detective Wallace, reacted with heart and headphone emojis – a nod to her character’s trademark prop. Dominic Fumusa, who plays Detective Oliva, commented with a fire emoji. These reactions suggest both actors will be returning for season two of Resurrection.
Now that filming is expected to begin in April 2026, a release for Dexter: Resurrection season 2 in fall 2026 or winter 2027 seems likely. The first season started filming in January 2025 and was released six months later in July. If they follow a similar schedule, season 2 could be available as early as October 2026.
We probably won’t know when season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection will be released until filming is finished. However, the goal is for the new season to arrive in 2026, keeping the wait between seasons to just one year.
