Quentin Tarantino recently criticized several actors, including Matthew Lillard and Paul Dano. During an interview on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Tarantino stated he wasn’t a fan of Lillard or Owen Wilson, bringing up Lillard’s name seemingly at random. Lillard, known for his role in Five Nights at Freddy’s and other films, responded to the comments at a GalaxyCon event in Ohio, expressing his hurt and frustration. He pointed out that Tarantino likely wouldn’t make similar comments about more established stars like Tom Cruise, and acknowledged that while he’s popular with fans, he doesn’t have the same level of influence in Hollywood. He described the experience as humbling and painful.
Tarantino didn’t just criticize the cast of Five Nights at Freddy’s; during a podcast, he also claimed The Hunger Games heavily borrowed from the Japanese novel Battle Royale. He expressed disbelief that the author of Battle Royale didn’t sue Suzanne Collins, saying The Hunger Games was a direct copy. He felt critics wouldn’t notice because they weren’t familiar with the Japanese film. Josh Hutcherson, who played Peeta in The Hunger Games, acknowledged some thematic similarities but suggested that all stories borrow from each other. As for Tarantino, it might be best if he avoids any restaurants with animatronic robots for now, considering their reputation for getting even.
