Answer to “Popular Hawaiian lute” in Cookie Jam
Many instruments, like guitars, mandolins, ouds, and banjos, belong to the lute family. However, for this puzzle, there’s only one right answer, and it is:
- Popular Hawaiian lute – Ukulele
The ukulele is a small, stringed instrument originally from Hawaii, dating back to the late 1800s. While it looks a bit like a tiny guitar, it’s actually built differently and has its own distinct sound and background. Most ukuleles have four nylon strings—sometimes in pairs—which create its bright, warm, and happy sound.
The ukulele originated with Portuguese immigrants who brought instruments called the machete and braguinha to Hawaii. Locals then modified these instruments, improving their shape and tuning until they developed the ukulele we know today. It quickly became popular in Hawaiian culture and music, and eventually gained fans all over the world.
