Tomb Raider TV Show Aims To “Reinvent” The Franchise

The new Tomb Raider series coming to Prime Video will be a fresh and expansive take on the world of Lara Croft, according to its creators at Story Kitchen.

Story Kitchen announced a new series on its website (first noted by Infinity Tomb Raider) created in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios. The company described the collaboration as a major turning point, promising a completely revamped and expansive take on the franchise.

The announcement explained that they want the upcoming live-action show and the Tomb Raider video games to share a connected story. While this opens up many possibilities, Amazon had previously stated the show wouldn’t be linked to their new Tomb Raider game.

It’s been over a year since Amazon first made its announcement, and the live-action series faced major changes and difficulties before Sophie Turner was confirmed as the star.

Along with Alicia Turner playing Lara Croft, British actor Martin Bobb-Semple will also be a main cast member in the series, though his specific character hasn’t been revealed yet. He’s previously appeared in shows like All American: Homecoming and One of Us is Lying.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for creating and starring in Fleabag, is the driving force behind this new series. She’s writing, creating, and overseeing the project as an executive producer. Joining her is Chad Hodge, who has worked on shows like Single All the Way and Wayward Pines, as a co-showrunner and executive producer. Jonathan van Tulleken, the director of Shogun, is also an executive producer and director on the series.

Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander both previously played Lara Croft in movies. Now, Daisy Turner says she’s incredibly excited to take on the role.

It’s a challenge taking over after such incredible performances from Angelina and Alicia, but we’re confident Phoebe will do a fantastic job. We’re all in good hands, and I’m excited for everyone to see what we’ve been working on!

Production on the Tomb Raider TV show is expected to begin in January 2026.
